View Full Version : Deepest Bench in the league

PhillySportFan

So who do you think in this up coming year will have the deepest bench in the NBA? Might be a bias opinion but the Sixers are going to be deep.

PG-Lou Williams, Royal Ivey
SG-Willie Green
SF-Kareem Rush
PF-Reggie Evans, Marreese Speights
C-Theo Ratliff

Thats a lot of depth at every position. Very versatile bench. A little bit of everything. A few of those guys can be starters on other teams and wait until the world see's what Marreese Speights is capable of.

pretty sick bench, still a lil thin at the big man postitions though

I'd say up there with the Rockets and the Lakers, I think we got all we need coming off the bench

I think arguments can be made for the Rockets and Lakers. Maybe there's a couple more out there I can't think of.
Sadly, the Raps bench was awesome last year.

Surprised no one has mentioned the Bulls

Rose/Hinrich/
Hughes/Gordon/Sefalosha
Deng/Nocioni/Nichols

They may not be the best team but every postion has two even guys at every position. And the deep bench has players that could start or be top bench players on other squads!

It's funny that anytime you have a thread like this every person suggests their own team. Probably because most people only know their own teams bench and can't name other benches. Being from Illinois I do agree the Bulls have a really good bench, I would put them top 5 for sure. But I think the best bench in the league goes to the Spurs if Manu is considered a bench player.

Pistons have a solid bench, we have some guys that could be/should be starters on many other teams.

That Sixers bench looks kinda funny, but it is a very deep bench. Lou Williams is definately a special player, as well as Speights. Reggie Evans is a nightmare to play against and was last years inspiring force on and off the court. Add Green and a couple of specialist like Rush, Ivey and Ratliff (specialists, but definately role players), and you have a very balanced team. Also when it comes to ego's.

I also do like the Rockets team AND bench. Carl Landry can be something special!

y_noble
10-17-2008, 03:36 AM
Ow I forgot, the guys who mentioned the Knicks:

Man! Your bench can be as deep as you want, but when you don't have a clue about what everyone's role is, it don't matter anyway! Most players are pretty much interchangeable so that makes your starting 5 automatically mediocre. Plus half of the bench players were supposed to be starting players or cornerstone players (Marbury, Curry anyone?). I was impressed by the flashes that I've seen from the Knicks. Just hope they have a fun and learning year and hope they come to learn which players should be a part of the future, and which not. This year the only thing the Knicks can do is surprise us. Lets hope they do.

I really wish more than two people would say WHY they think their team has a deep bench.

The Lakers have a fairly strong bench if Sun Yue works out and Odom is in the second unit. I'm not sold on Farmar or their backup bigs.

Aaron Brooks looks to be a stud for the Rockets bench, and after Carl Landry's impressive season last year and Battier being shifted to the bench. Not to mention Mutombo. They pretty much have no holes in their roster.

I expect Kirilenko to either be traded if he's unhappy on the bench or put up monster numbers for the Jazz, either way. I'd kill to have Morris Almond and Paul Milsap on my bench. When Harpring retires the job belongs to Almond.

Detriot's bench is solid, but people seem to be overrating them. Maxiell is the only player I think could consistently start for another team, and he's way undersized. I do like Amir Johnson and Rodney Stuckey, but they've got a ways to go still. Their strength is still their starting 5.

The Sixers bench is overrated. There's a reason that Theo Ratliff, Royal Ivey, Kareem Rush, and Donyell Marshall all make the veteran's minimum. No other team would pay them more. Rush is a one trick pony, all he does is shoot, and he's streaky when doing that. I watched him all last year, and for every 7 for 9, 18 point night he gives you, you get four or five 2 for 7, 5 point nights. It's maddening. Evans has career averages of 5 points, 7 rebounds. Stud, he is not. I like Willie Green even if he's inefficient, and Louis Williams was a steal at $4.5 million (someone should have offered him the full MLE).

The Knicks have never lacked talent. That's all I have to say about them.

The Spurs are the Spurs. That's all I have to say about them.

I'm surprised that hardly anyone is talking about phoenix they have at least 3 or 4 people that can start in the nba and I'm not talking about rolo or dragic they have barbosa that can give you at least 20 ppg a night, barnes or hill whoever is going to be on the bench try to tell me you wouldn't want each one of them on your team, diaw I know he's inconsistent but I think if he's on his game he can get you 15 ppg 7 rpg and 6 apg that's even good for a starter, and lets talk about rolo the outdoor game they had against denver he had seven blocks I repeat seven blocks people, and up and coming starter in the future tucker I think the guy is real good maybe a potential all star mock my words but I think phoenixs bench is the best overall houston 2nd and portland 3rd

well i want to say Celtics, but no one will beleive me.

House, solid 3pt shooter, and leader off the bench
TA, MVP of preseason...u wont beleive the numbers.
Pruitt, a lot of talent and will come out of no where like leon powe and make an impact
Powe- NBA FINALS GAME 2.
Davis- eh not bad, needs more experience
Walker, Giddens, Miles- all explosive athleticism
O'Bryant- will do well offensively filling in off the bench with his developing inside game.

i know the names dont look great, but i been watching the preseason closely and Tony Allen looks like a completely different player. 32 pts in 29 minutes last night.

listen im not sold on the lakers bench. they were awful in the finals. they feel on their face and i wasnt affraid of them before the Celtics played them so i dont see how they are in the picture.

I would say bulls or knicks would be in the picture, but I think your team has to actually be mediocre at least to make the cut. Otherwise the bench could be as good as it wants, its all worthless.

Other than that, I would say Lakers, Rockets, Blazers, Spurs, Pistons.

I have one thing to say that pretty much sums up this list. Ike Diogu was traded FROM Indiana, where he was 3rd string and getting no minutes. The Blazers do have a strong bench, but this list is pretty unrealistic. Keep drinking the Kool-Aid, man.
