What do you mean by backup. Are you talking about a player that comes in off the bench or a player who plays C after the Starter Sits. If player that comes off the bench, it could be Hawes, But for Backup after starter its Between Gasol, Amare, and Bosh.

Does this player have to come off the bench or can he be a starter that slides down to the center position once the starting center rests?

Robin Lopez has to be the best back-up at the moment.

Time to get ripped on...I'm going with Kwame Brown. True, he has been labeled a bust because he has not lived up to his full potential, but he has still averaged 7.5 and 5.7 in under 24 minutes per game. Those are very solid numbers for a backup. Lopez is also very good, but he has not played in a real game yet so we can't make that judgement yet; but he will be solid center, no doubt. OR Anderson Varejao. He is another energy guy who gets rebounds, takes charges, and scores when he has to. I put him above Kwame.

Zo, Varajao, Lopez, and Diop-in that order. If Deke isnt retired hes #2 behind zo.

And btw to the guy up top: They're starting Camby at PF.

Luis Scola is the best in my books.

Maybe a Kurt Thomas/Fabricio Oberto from Spurs.

Francisco Elson from Milwaukee?

Mutumbo in Houston?

Laugh at me now for this next one, but you'll see.

Andrea Bargnani from Toronto. Has been nailing shots from everywhere and looks like a new player with added weight and some extra rebounding.

this might be a homer pick, but I honestly think he's the best backup center out there right now.

Joel Przybilla. He's a very decent center and with Oden arriving in portland he will be coming off the bench. I think he would start on quite some teams.

Bynum isn't a backup so I'm not counting him.

A homer pick, Pryzbilla was a starter and would be for many teams.

He plays solid D, blks shots, good passer, above average rebounder, runs the floor as good as any center and doesnt turn the ball over often.

Dont get me wrong he isnt gonna get mistaked for D.Howard but he has become a good center by hard work and he would be a starter if still if we hadnt gotten Oden(my fave Blazer).

Pryzbilla is a true professional and accepts his role regardless.

Keep in mind Detroit,San Antonio and some others wanted him pretty badly a couple of yrs ago and he stayed when any other player would have bailed for more money and a chance to win now.

Pryzbilla has my vote as best backup center for many a reasons!

Probably Mutombo, even if his offensive game is inept.

He's a force on defense. Hard to score in the paint with him in there.

Bynum.

If i were Phil and i had to take one out of Odom, PAu and Bynum from the Bench i would Use Bynum from the Bench until i can trade Odom.
