Too bad that is only 5 players when you need a team of 12 that is under the $71.15 salary cap.
:D

What you have above is Easily $75 million.

PG Deron Williams (I love Chris Paul here too...but I like half court execution, which is where Deron excels...yet is also great in transition...clutch shooter and above average defender)
SG Anthony Parker (great all round guy...brings offense and defense...nice balanced perimeter game...unselfish)
SF James Posey(great glue guy...smart perimeter stopper and solid shooter)
PF Luis Scola (perfect high post complement to Duncan, great passer, very smart and crafty...I wish he wasn't traded to Houston...good position defense)
C Tim Duncan (the main option in the post, great weak side defense, protects the rim)

Bench:

Manu Ginobili (the clutch scorer off the bench, like with the Spurs)
Rajon Rondo (atheticism, defense, energy and ball handling)
Bruce Bowen (defensive stopper on the perimeter in limited minutes)
David Lee (another post scorer who can pass, rebound and defend)
Paul Millsap (rebounding, hard work and defense)
Jason Maxiell (for hustle, athelticism, energy off the bench)
James Jones (for shooting)

Coach: Popovich

Play in half court style...Williams as main facilitator...Duncan as low post threat surrounding him with shooters like Posey and Parker, and Scola from mid range. I like players that move the ball and most of guys buy into that concept. Manu is used as main scorer off the bench.

This teams has defenders, shooters, rebounders and scorers. And most of all, people with good basketball IQ and one of the greatest winners of his era in Tim Duncan. I think this team would destroy any existing team in the league right now. I like guys who play within the offense and accept their role.

Most guys on this team won't complain about PT or need pampering of their fragile ego's. These guys are team players.

What team do you come up with?

Blazers minus Raef, Bayless + LeBron.

Roy

Blake
Rudy

What team do you come up with?

Good thread JB. Here is my team:

Kirk Hinrich
Kobe Bryant
Tayshaun Prince
A. Mcdyess
D. Howard

Bench:

Sasha Vujacic
B. Gordon
J. Posey
Paul Milsapp
J. Maxiell
JJ Redick
Desagna Diop

Coach: Phil Jackson

I think this team would win a title, they would have enough defense on the perimeter and in the low post. The team would have a great closer in Kobe and the low post game of D. Howard. T. Prince is a lockdown defender and Mcdyess is a blue-collar type of power forward. The bench would provide a nice spark for the team.

many of these include D12, who is really good, but do u guys all believe he can win an NBA title? i think if he was as good as he is portrayed, then the magic would have beat detriot or at least gone to 7 games.

its not like he doesnt have a good team around him already.

good topic JB

i also wouldnt have Rondo on the bench, he wouldnt be very affective off the bench. he isnt instant scoring.

i think we should throw a twist in this, and only include players who have never won a title. just an idea

Very good offensive and defensive team. Great post scoring, great perimeter scoring, great defense, great shooting, great play making great depth. Pretty much the perfect team, and not a single player you would have to worry about having an ego problem.

Some of the other teams I am seeing so far are unrealistic. Theres no way players like Brandon Roy, Danny Granger, Lamarcus Aldridge, etc. would be cool with coming off the bench. All my bench guys are either real life bench guys or guys that start some, come off the bench some.

I like JayW's team, but I think its a little too modest. You need one more true scorer in the starting lineup.

So Lebron is going to accept being the 2nd option on the team to Tim Duncan a guy who has won 4 titles and as the best player on the team?

I agree that Lebron is more statistically productive at this point than Duncan, however Duncan has the history of winning as the best player, so obviously he would probably be the #1 option on the team.

Saying your bench is much stronger is an exaggeration. Your bench is nice, but D-Will, Boozer, Battier, Perkins forms a pretty legit 9 man rotation. I think your team has 3 point shooting over mine, and thats about it. I do like your pick of Roy at starting SG, I'd switch him with Smith.

C - Andrew Bogut - $4,991,520

My bench is stocked full of scorers, defenders, rebounders, blockers, everything. That bench is absolutely ********.

Total cost - $71,928,826 (well under for this group of talent :D)

CP3/Jose/Manu
Kobe/Manu/Andre
Smith/Danny/Andre
Gasol/Horford/Smith
Dwight/Bynum/Bogut

You really didn't pay attention to the off-season.

Hawks matched the Grizzlies' offer for Smith. He'll get 10M this coming season.

EDIT: Iguodala will get 11.3M this coming season.

Calderon will get 7.5M this coming season.

All the players in rookie contracts had increases in their salaries.

It's not fair you used last season's salaries to create a stronger team. That's not the players value anymore.

I'm not sure, but I think the OP wanted us to used current salaries, not last season's.

Deron Williams/Jordan Farmar
Kobe Bryant/Sasha Vujacic
Trevor Ariza/Bruce Bowen/Grant Hill
Kevin Garnett/Ronny Turiaf
Andrew Bynum/Dikembe Mutombo/Paul Millsap

I tried to hav a nice mix. I based it on the Lakers team, except swapped Odom+Gasol for Garnett+Deron+ other role players.

I don't think there will be problems in this. it might be a bit star studded, but I think Kobe can control his ego enough to work with Deron Williams and Kevin Garnett. Deron Williams is a great pointguard, tough guy, very unselfish and clutch as well. Kevin Garnett is extremely unselfish, very versatile for a PF. Kobe will be the man, and they'll know it. I stuck Trevor Ariza in the starting lineup to give them abit more athleticism. I think Bynum will work well with Garnett, especially on defense. He'll also be getting nice lobs from Deron Williams.

I added Bruce Bowen in there as that defensive guy. Sasha, Farmar, Ariza, Ronny are there because I'm a Laker fan, they're decent bench players. I added Grant Hill as the leader of the bench squad, he can at least score a bit and defend as well. he's still got a rounded package. Dikembe mutombo's there to come in a few minutes and block a shot or two. Paul Millsap is pretty physical in the paint, so I added him as well.

not the perfect team, but I like it.

PG - Chris Paul - $3,615,960
SG - Kobe Bryant - $19,490,625
SF - Josh Smith - $2,243,543
PF - Pau Gasol - $13,735,000
C - Dwight Howard - $6,061,274

Best PG in the game and he's dirt cheap. Best player in the NBA at SG. Shoot, drive, defend, score, etc. Smith is one of the best defenders in the league and he is a huge athletic cutter with CP3 and Kobe getting him the ball. Dwight is an absolute beast and with him at C, Gasol can play PF and thrive so well with this passing attack.

Bench
PG - Jose Calderon - $2,471,604
SG - Manu Ginobili - $9,079,811
SF - Danny Granger - $1,516,800
PF - Al Horford - $3,745,800
C - Andrew Bynum - $2,172,000
SG/SF - Andre Iguodala - $2,804,889

Every salary on here is wrong. The starting lineup alone makes over 65 mil. Josh makes 10 mil and Dwight makes almost 14 mil Iggy makes 11 mil and Jose makes 7 mil and in a year Paul and Bogut will make 14 and 10 mil in extensions

And the bench makes about 44 mil so thats makes the salaries about 110 mil

And also i thought the point was to make the team almost realistic where the roles on the team where clearly defined. So i thought that meant having actual bench players on the bench. I really dont see Iggy, Bogut, Bynum or Granger or any of them for that matter coming off the bench

Those salaries are just fine. Last time I checked, the 08-09 season hasn't started yet.

So you're not going to go by their current contracts, and go by their rookie contracts?

Typical Laker fan. Are you telling us that the 08-09 preseason is still the 2007-08 season? When do you think contracts run out and new ones begin?

Create the perfect team of players that would win the title. The team must have no conflicts on who would be the Man and no Ego Problems and the Pay Roll Must be under the Luxury Tax.

What team do you come up with?

I think most of you forgot the other rules.

Like jnb58 said people are forgetting this rules. People have players like Brandon Roy, Bynum, Al Horford, Iggy and Bogut coming off the bench. This is not the Olympics. I know this is supposed to be for fun but atleast make it almost realistic.
