View Full Version : May be better as a second option

I was thinking that there are some players who are the main guys/centerpieces/star player of their respective teams;whatever term you prefer-but they seem like they would be better off as second options. This isn't intended to be a criticism of their skills, but they appear to lack the "killer drive." One guy that comes to mind is Pau Gasol-he had difficulty getting anywhere in the playoffs until he joined the Lakers.
Who are other players you can think of and which team(s) do you think they would benefit?

Andre Iguodala, and finally he is a second option to Elton Brand. problem solved.

Pau Gasol in my mind is a 3rd option at best. He is the softest big man in the NBA bar none.

In this stage, I really think a second option would be best.

Kobe

JK :D
Kevin Martin right now. In the future he can become the primary option but right now he will benefit a lot from being a second option. Also Micheal Redd, Larry Hughes, Richard Jefferson.

Michael Redd is a #1 option. Larry Hughes isn't even a #2 option, #3 in my opinion..

I agree with Richard Jefferson though.

Stephon Marbury. More like the 13th option.

Yao is a VERY close second.

I think dirk and melo are legitimate #1 options. I agree about the others though.

How is Dirk better as a 2nd option? Only a few guys are even more statistically productive than he is.

3rd options don't get teams into the playoffs.

I'd have to say Rudy Gay.

And why not KB? I know people are going to bash me for this but he has had trouble getting far in the playoffs alone... He needs good support and was the Robin in the Shaq story.

He is a good 1st option as long as he has big men that can score in the paint.

AI should be a second option on any contending team. His FG% is pretty horrible to be a first option, but if he took a few bad shots less and focused more on getting his team the ball like we KNOW he can, he could be the added star to say, the Cavs, that gets then the championship.

Another star that should be, and is the second option is CP3... he is so unselfish but has a good set of offensive skills. He knows he wouldn't be as efficient if he were the primary scorer most of the time, so he dishes to West. CP3 is doing what AI should be doing.

Jermaine O'neal should beand is now the second option on the Raptors, and I think it's gonna work out tremendously.

Yeah good luck with Iguodala as a first option, he cant shot. Even if his life depended on it.

He didn't exactly have a good team around him when he was in Memphis. But I still agree that he is much better suited as a second option.

Cp3 was the 2nd most productive player in the league last year after Lebron. If he is a 2nd option than so should anyone not named Lebron.

That is a nick name of his, but he's really only soft for a center. As a power forward he isn't exactly the toughest guy, but he's not the softest. He's just not meant to play in the block against the Shaq's and Howard's of the league. As a power forward he can play more like Dirk, who isn't a bruiser, but isn't known as soft, cause his role doesn't require him to play inside.

It's always cool to make fun of foreign names. Pau Gasoft. Mehmet Chokur...that is until they prove you wrong.
