Rick Adelman or Jerry Sloan

Two coaches that have been to the finals multiple times and had teams that were good enough to win it, but just came up short.

Adelman coached the Blazers team that went to the Finals in 1990 and 1992 only to lose to the Pistons and Bulls respectively.

Jerry Sloan coached the Utah Jazz since 1988-1989 and took his team to the finals twice only to come up short.

Rick Adelman also coached the 2001-2002 Sacramento Kings that went to the conference finals but that had the best record in the league and that lost to the eventual champion Lakers.

Both coaches are now still coaching in the NBA, neither has won a ring as a coach, but both are some of the best coaches around.

Rick Adelman currently coaches the Houston Rockets (who on paper is a title contender) and Jerry Sloan coaches the Utah Jazz (who Hollinger is predicting will be the #1 seed out West).

Simply put both coaches have teams that can win it all.

With that in mind, who would you rather see win a title? Rick Adelman or Jerry Sloan and why?

Definitely Rick Adelman

I hate the style of play that Jerry Sloan preaches. Dont play real defense, just constantly foul the other team. And in between fouls, throw in some cheap shots and flop

he teaches flopping like no other, he coached 3 of the greatest floppers of all time including the greatest (Stockton, Malone, AK)

I must say though sloane being on the Jazz since the 80's....that's just ridiculous....doesn't happen these days....I don't think there has been one coach who has been with the same team since the 90's.....

Usually a coach who has talent on his team has a limited amount of time to get the best out of that team, regardless of whether its the coach's fault the team is underachieving. Take Avery Johnson for example, is it really his fault what happened in 06 and 07? Who knows.

For that reason, its amazing Sloan has been with the Jazz for so long, and its about time he got a ring. Too bad he wont anytime soon though.

Jerry is the guy i think should have a ring. To bad MJ was in the way when he had his shots

Sloan...not many coaches of his caliber would've stuck around during the rebuilding process. He deserves a ring.

Both are great coaches. I don't feel like I should vote in this poll because it would be biased seeing as im a jazz fan

Jerry Sloan and not because I hate the Rockets but Jerry Sloan has always been able to build a good team to put on the court...so I'm going with Jerry Sloan.

I think its gotta be Sloan. I just seem to have a bit more respect for him as a coach, not to discount what Adelman has done. Both are fantastic coaches.

I have never liked the Jazz. Sloan deserves a title though more than any coach left. He actually also needs a coach of the year award which he hasn't won in 20 years. Despite all that, Adelman has a better shot of winning with the Rockets. Neither coach will win a title this year.

We all know the answer:

Rockets Fans/Kings fans/a trace percentage of minority = Adelman

Jazz fans/Everyone else = Sloan

JB, you used to make excellent posts/threads. What happened man??

i don't think anybody deserves a title, it has to be earned. Then again as a coach you don't really control the talent you must work with. A franchise can have a great coach but if the GM doesn't get him any talent worthy enough to comptete night in and night out, it really causes the coach some extra time in trying to devleop them and hopefully make them pan out.

Jerry Sloan only deserves a title if he does it with some team other than Utah.

Rockets > Jazz therefore Adelman deserves the title more.

Utah must NEVER win a NBA title as long as I'm alive.

I am a rockets fan and I would say both are deserving, slight edge Sloan.

In that case I don't think Phil Jackson has earned jack. Jordan, Kobe, and Shaq earned it all for him. Give Adelman or Sloan players like that and they'd of won several championships by now. So i don't want to hear that they don't deserve one, both do...both got screwed.

^Jazz got screwed because they were confronting mr Banner of the League itself.

Kings....well im almost sure no referee made Peja do that Airball three point shoot.

Oh and im Neutral , A Knick fan, so nothing against Sac.

The series should've been over and Peja should've never needed to take a shot like that. Its hard for you to understand cause you aren't a Kings fan, but game 6 was the worst officiated game in the history of the NBA. You might think "he's just saying that cause he's a Kings fan and he'll believe anything to make the Kings look better", but i'm telling you if you watched that game without bias, it was a crime. When Bibby got nailed by Bryant with the elbow it made me want to puke. Right in front of the official to! What i find absolutely sickening as well is when Artest hit Ginobli with an elbow in game 1 of the 2006 series against them and AFTER THE GAME was suspended because the Spurs sent game footage of him doing it....now your telling me that Artest gets suspended because the NBA reviewed footage of a call they originally didn't eject him for....but when Kobe does it he gets of free as can be and plays in game 7! And I know that ref saw when Kobe his Bibby cause he puts his arm in the air indicating that he's waiving it off as fair! Jesus! Makes me so mad! Adelman deserves it more.
