Though the Heat did not meet Shawn Marion's request for a contract extension, he has decided not to ask for a trade because ''I like being a Heat player,'' Marion said. He added, ''I'm a wanted player,'' but one Western Conference executive said potential trade suitors have been put off by agent Dan Fegan's desire for a ''maximum-level extension'' or something approaching it.

He'll only 'force' more shots out of frustration that he can't get any easy ones in transition anymore.

why not try it out with D.Wade?

He's a very good player, but I don't think there is a team out there that would offer him a Max Deal. He's definitely not worth that right now.

Personally, I have always felt he was overrated. He is great defender and rebounder for his size but his offense is overrated. Steve Nash made it so easy for him to score. If Raja Bell can become an impact player it is due to something or something. I feel Marion is a great player but he is not an all-star or worth the kind of money he is getting paid. He is not an all-star in my mind.

except he was a near 20/10 player before Nash

Nash was the biggest beneficiary of roster/playing style..who else goes from above average pg to 2 time MVP??

Great player but maybe not worth a max extension.

as long as he doesn't want a ridiculous contract. If he is demanding in excess of $12 million a year, they need to let him walk. He lives off his freakish athletic ability, and will begin to decline in the next couple of years. The Heat would be better served chasing a restricted FA with a big number.

if he walks Toronto would be a great fit for him w/ calderon lobbing it 2 him or bosh dropping them bounce passes when marion is slashing through the lanes. That would really make them contenders...
a line up of
Jose Calderon(distributor)
Anthony Parker(Shooter)
Marion(Slasher)
Bosh(Low post scorer, who can spread the floor)
O'neal(rebounder, blocker, and can score in the post and as well face up)
talk about a perfect line up.

yeah but Moon is a poor mans Marion, younger, and makes less $$. I am not saying he is in Marion's class, but they have their alleyoop man.

You ain't never lied bro. Nash gets his **** blown so much on this forum. He's a terrible defender and he's long in the tooth. He was never respected as a top point guard in Dallas. If anything D'Antoni's system, playing w/ Marion and Amare MADE Nash. Not the other way around.

Marion is a good guy to have around. Design a few plays for him every game and he won't cause any problems. If they did that for him in Phoenix he would still be there. People are talking about him falling off w/ us. But we are now a RUNNING TEAM. Not the to the extent that Phoenix did it, but we will run...and often.

Good player. But depending on how he plays this season, that'll decide whether he'll get the contract he wants or not.

exactly. I think it's funny when people say Marion was only the beneficiary of Nash's playmaking skills....but he was an all-star in phoenix long before Nash arrived.

first off, they all benefit from one another. But Nash was awesome with Dallas as well if you can't remember that far back. He has never been a defender, and I have an issue with his MVP's, but please, he is still the best court vision guard out there, and throws passes that have no business working out. Show me a guy who one hands passes that accurate. There is nobody. And I believe he hit 47% from the three point line. He isn't a specialist like Kapono who plays 16 mpg and never shoots unless open, he gets that with time running down, on the move, etc. Nash is a top 4 pg now, and was the best pg in the NBA 3 years ago. Marion is an athletic freak that would translate well on most teams, but will see sharp decline in the next few years. Plus he is owner of the ugliest jumper I have seen in a long time.

Everybody always says Marion is SOOOO overrated and says Nash is SOOOO underrated but Marion changed his play just for the Sun's and that is something few people do

wtf....i'm not putting Nash down.

the only point i was trying to refute, was that Marion sucks, and the only reason he put up great numbers was because of playing with Nash. I know no one said that directly, but I get the vibe that people attribute Marion's success to Nash and only Nash. Nash makes players around him better, obviously, but Marion was still good before Nash, and he'll be fine w/o him. thats all I was trying to say....I'm not taking anything away from Steve Nash.

My b dude, Marion is a freak, straight up. The guy has to be in better shape than anyone I have ever seen. He doesn't even look like he is sweating. But he will decline quicker, because he is not a highly skilled basketball player. He has been sweet the last 6 years though, fun to watch. Same thing with Amare. Take away Nash, and their games would suffer. For sure. But they are still really good players

that means they dont really lose anything when marion sits down. they will only lose his speed and shooting

Marion is a tough defender, he has spider arms, but I do think he is in for decline in the next 2 seasons. Moon is no Marion, but if you are just looking for a player to fill the outlet, Moon is just as good

SwaggaIke
09-30-2008, 10:42 PM
^Moon isn't nearly as good. No matter how ugly Marion's form is, he makes shots. He can defend 4 positions on the court w/o missing a beat. He is a TENACIOUS rebounder and he doesn't NEED plays ran for him to score. Moon is a nice player, but to say he's as good as Marion is a false statement.

Nash allows for more efficient offense. Marions stats will look better without Nash as teammate, but his percentages will go down significantly.
