Los Angeles Clippers point guard Jason Williams announced his retirement from the NBA today, ending his 10-year career. Signed by the Clippers as a free agent on August 7, 2008, Williams did not appear in a game for Los Angeles.

Williams enjoyed a 10-year NBA career that saw him take the court for three different teams, (Sacramento 1998-2001, Memphis 2001-2005 and Miami 2005-2008). A member of the NBA Champion Miami Heat in 2005-06, Williams started all 23 playoff games and averaged 9.3 points and 3.9 assists for Miami in helping to win the organization’s first title.

The West Virginia native leaves the NBA with career averages of 11.4 points, 6.3 assists, 1.3 steals, 2.4 rebounds while shooting 39.6 percent from the floor, 32.5 percent from three-point range and 81.6 percent from the foul line in 679 total games. Williams finishes his career with a 2.77 assist-to-turnover ratio.

He enjoyed his best statistical season in 2001-02 when he averaged 14.8 points, 8.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds for Memphis. In his four seasons with the Grizzlies, Williams became the club’s all-time assists leader and all-time leader in three-point field goals attempted in addition to being named the NBA’s Most Improved Player for the 2002-03 season by Sports Illustrated when he finished tied for second in the league in assists per game.http://******.com/src_wiretap_archives/54556/20080926/jason_williams_retires/

For sure, he was a solid player for a decade+ and got a ring, can't ask for more than that.

Anyway he had a nice career.

i liked j-will, we got bibby for him in a trade. thanks jwill!

anyway, he was one of the more entertaining players whether it's shooting a 3 on 1 3 pointer or throwing an ill advised behind the back pass.

Surprised he doesn't just go to a contending team. Maybe a team like the Rockets or Hornets could use a backup PG.

Watch him with the Kings.

I distinctly remember him pulling for a 3 and airballing on a 4 on 1 fastbreak against the lakers. I've never laughed so hard. The look on D-Wade's face was priceless

hes only 32. his averages last year wurr pretty close to his carrer averages. clippers r probally confused now. y did he sign w/them if he was jus gunna retire. wudn't it b smarter to retire w/ the team he won his only championship w/? makes noe sence 2 me. i wunder wut tha clips r gunna do now!

why did he sign with the clips then retire?

Maybe because he still gets paid? That is really shady though if he signed a guaranteed contract with a team while he was intending to retire all along.

I never thought he was that good of a player, but he sure was dynamic, and had some plays that made you yell out, Hell Yeah!

I can't believe it. That's quite shocking. His knee is bad but I think he still can ball. If I were him I would sit on the bench 3 more years earn some mil

I wish him best luck. Thanks for the memories

First off, i got to say I loved watching him in his early days with the kings and grizzlies with his good ball handling and great highlight reels. Although his career started to go downhill shortly after, he still was one of my favorite players to watch. Congratulations to a great career.

J-WILLS NEVER PLANNED HIS RETIREMENT,MAYBE IT JUST CAME UP AND HE REALLY THOUGHT HARD ABOUT IT AND DECIDED IT WAS THE BEST THIS TO DO AT HIS AGE AND AT THIS TIME.BUT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SWEET TO SEE J-WILL PLAY ATLEAST 1YR WITH THIS CLIPPER SQUAD,IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SOMETHING REALLY NICE TO SEE.BUT O'WELL IT AINT THAT BAD FOR CLIPPERS CAUSE THEY DRAFTED 4TH OVERALL PICK ERIC GORDON,A GREAT POINT GUARD IN THE MAKING,HAS ALOT TO LEARN AND ALOT TO SHOW.CLIPPS WILL DO OK WITHOUT J-WILLS...IM ACTUALLY HAPPY FOR THE CLIPPERS THAT THEY HAD A PRETTY SOLID SQUAD THIS YEAR THEY DESERVE IT AFTER TOO MANY LOSES THIS PAST YRS.:smoking:

he had a very good NBA career won a ring, should of been a 2 time all-star. I also respect that he knew when to retire, because most players dont and ruin their career by sucking the last 3 or 4 years (Ben Wallace)
