The Composite Score rating system consists of two components, Offensive Composite Score (OCS) and Defensive Composite Score (DCS). Each is made up of a combination of three advanced statistical metrics and then adjusted based on a player's position and playing time....

Here is the Top 15 Rank:

1. Kevin Garnett
2. Chauncey Billups
3. Paul Pierce
4. Manu Ginobili
5. LeBron James
6. Chris Paul
7. Dirk Nowitzki
8. Kobe Bryant
9. Tim Duncan
10. Chris Bosh
11. Andrew Bynum
12. Kendrick Perkins
13. Pau Gasol
14. Dwight Howard
15. Jamario Moon

dont get what its stating. the list is horrible by talent, value, or anything really. i mean wade is 105? the only thing he isnt adept at is shooting the 3. yes he was injured but was still efficient except for the turnovers.

Tim Duncan is #1 IMO. He's a winner. Garnett is too, but Duncan still has more and Garnett has a better supporting cast IMO. I don't get why people continue to underrate him. I don't really get the formula either. Jamario Moon? Kendrick Perkins? Andrew Bynum? Huh?

Kobe Bryant should be in the top 3 as well. Maybe knock Billups out of there (as much as I love the guy).

Shooting (FT, 3PT, and mid-range), holding on to the ball (low TO), more accurate passer IMO. Doesn't mean Calderon is the better player, because he's not, but he is better at some things.

oshea225
09-21-2008, 09:17 PM
That doesn't make him a better passer does it? Because that makes him a better passer than Andre Miller which isn't true...

you told the guy to name one thing jose does better than billups. thats two things. i dont think jose is better than chauncey, im just saying he had more assists and a better 3%

cmellofan15
09-21-2008, 09:19 PM
And how does that make him better? If K-Mart puts up more points than Dwayne Wade does that make him a better scorer

I don't think the stats always determine whoes better but sometimes it does...

you obviously missed the part where i said "i dont think jose is better than chauncey". again - you said "name one thing calderon can do better than billups.." if he gets more assists, guess what? hes better at getting assists. if he shoots a better 3%, guess what? hes better at shooting 3s. does that mean hes a better player than chauncey? no.

12. Kendrick Perkins
13. Pau Gasol
14. Dwight Howard
15. Jamario Moon

I'd definitely take billups over dwight howard, lebron james, chris paul, and kobe bryant (SYKE!)

Also, I do believe Dirk plays better defense than Kobe, Duncan, and Dwight (SYKE TOO!).

I get it but I said if he gets more assists it doesn't make him a BETTER PASSER I didn't say he wasn't better at getting assists so guess what? The comment obviously wasn't directed toward you.

oshea225
09-21-2008, 09:37 PM
lol whatever dude.
calderon - more assists, better 3%. better at getting assists, better at shooting 3's.
billups - better player

Perkins being in the top 15 just goes to show that you can manipulate stats to say anything you want

Remember this takes into account playing time. There are also players like Wade, Iverson, Kidd that should be up here but they turn the ball over like its a hot potato. This also takes into account defense. So although I don't agree with this I can understand how they got these rating.

KG IS the best OVERALL player in the league when you look at everything you could possibly do on a basketball court. I still would take LeBron as the BEST but overall KG is there and don't sleep on Billups because he is a stud. But yes Perkins, Moon and Bynum are not top 15 players in the league.

I get it, but a lot of from what i could gather from the list has to do with how good your team was... because not only are kendrick perkins and rondo ranked higher than ray allen, but Leon Powe is 64th, which clearly shows that being on a good team boosts your rank way higher than it rightfully should

Chronz
09-24-2008, 04:03 AM
There is no holy grail of statistics, the purpose of stats is to invoke debates about certain aspects of a players game, if your trying to turn them all into a single number then your missing out on the entire debate, Im all for efficiency stats like PER, EFF whatever your style is but, applying different weights to stats that have their own weighted metrics makes zero sense to me. They are all meant to reveal different aspects of a players game, you should use all of them in their own individual context.

Either way I dont see where it says theyre ranking the players

Someone mentioned it earlier, its the defensive ratings that do the most damage, since all of them are highly flawed on their own and take extensive research than just applying the raw numbers.
