Utah has Homecourt Advantage

Utah Jazz Lineup:

C- Mehmet Okur - Paul Millsap
PF - Carlos Boozer - Drew Gooden
SF - Ron Artest - Ronnie Brewer
SG - Mike Dunleavy - Kyle Korver
PG - Deron Williams - Chucky Atkins

New Jersey Nets Lineup:

Jason Terry, Jason Williams, Sam Cassell
Larry Hughes, Rasual Butler, Fred Jones
Vince Carter, Michael Finley, Austin Croshere
Kevin Garnett, Etan Thomas, Donyell Marshall
Shaq O'Neal, Jammal Magloire, Loren Woods

Utah Jazz Series Writeup:

D-Will/Atkins
Dunleavy/Korver
Artest/Ronnie Brewer
Boozer/Gooden
Okur/Milllsap

My team has been constrcted perfectly. d-will is the type of guy who can get to the basket at will, and he needs shooters to kick it out to just in case. We'll dunleavy and okur bothe have really good range. Artest and boozer can follow for the trailer, or create on their own to take the strain off of d-will. My 2nd unit is the best in the mock. if botgh teams starters are great, then the bench is the difference maker.

PG: D-will VS Jason Terry

This isn't even close. terry is a shooter, and d-will is a very good defender. He will give him fits all game and hold him to single digits. On the other hand, D-will will torch him on the offensive. He's way too quick and has the range, so terry can't just sit back and expect him to drive to the basket every time.
i get the avantage

SG: Mike Dunleavy VS Larry Hughes

Hughes is a decent defender, but nothing special. Dunleavy is a great spot up shooter who can carry the team if they need to. Hughes has absolutely no offensive game so dunleavy isnt really a liability here.
i have the advantage

SF: Ron Artest VS Vince Carter

Carter is the better scorer but thats it. Artest has the physical style of defense that is perfect against carter. He'll hold him to well below his averages. Artest isnt a bad scorer either. He can fill it at will, and with d-will and boozer that just makes it even easier.
Advantage jazz

PF: Carlos Boozer VS KG

KG is one of the best PFs ever, but boozer is still a top big man in this league. 20/10 is nothing to ignore. KG will fill it up, but boozer will keep him busy all night long.
Advantage nets

C: Mehmet Okur VS Shaq

These are 2 very different players. Shaq may do better down low, but hes not near quick enough to get out to match okur's range. Shaq's not what he used to be.
Draw

Bench: My bench is better. i have 2, maybe 3 starting calibur guys (brewer, gooden, korver), a 3 point specialist (korver), a high energy guy (millsap), and an experienced vet(atkins). his bench is full of has beens, who were decent starters at one point, but might not even make some teams rosters, let alone be good bench players

New Jersey Nets Series Writeup:

We the Nets are glad we have made it this far. It's been a long journey and now we're in the finals.

We definitely feel we can on the Jazz, we feel we have faced better teams like the Pistons and Cavaliers, so we are not verry worried about this. I ask toy voters to please writeup my writeup and don't just skim through it, this is the FINALS.

Key: IN THIS SERIES, WE ARE GOING TO PLAY SHAQ ON BOOZER AND KG ON OKUR (while on defense).

On to the matchups.

Deron Williams vs Jason Terry
This is a lot like the series we had against the Pistons a few days ago. This is the only matchup where the Jazz can capitalize. However, DO NOT underrate Terry, PLEASE. 16 PPG and 5 APG is good enough for me at this position, we don't need star numbers. Williams won't lock down Terry because he's a pure shooter, you can't lock down a shooter unless you have 3 inches or more on him. On defense, Terry can keep up with Deron, Terry is as quick as him, so don't let this matchup fool you.

Mike Dunleavy vs Larry Hughes
We are not worried about Dunleavy at all. He did score 19 PPG last season, but with the Pacers?? C'mon. Do you think Dunleavy is going to score with Deron, Artest, Boozer, and Okur in his team? Also, Hughes is a great defender. These whole playoffs I've been saying I don't need Hughes on offense. However, Dunleavy is so bad at defense that we're going to ask Hughes to score now. Hughes will surely be able to drop at least 10-12 PPG with Dunleavy defending him.

Ron Artest vs Vince Carter
Artest is a fantastic defender, but Vince Carter is just too much. Artest will give VC a hard time scoring, but VC is just too talented. Artest might have to help double-team Shaq down low, and that is going to leave someone open, mostly Carter. VC will STILL be able to drop at least 20, he just needs to work harder. Artest on offense won't do much, he will be limited to jumpshots with Shaq and KG down low.

Carlos Boozer vs Shaq
Shaq IS NOT PLAYING PF. I just have him on Boozer because he won't be able to guard Okur. Boozer is an excellent low post score, but to a certain extent. Boozer is barely 6'9'', and Shaq is near 7'2''. Boozer also can't out-muscle Shaq, Shaq has 40+ pounds over Boozer. How is Boozer going to score?? He's only a low post player, so he can't do picks or any of that. Also, how is Boozer going to defend Shaq? Shaq is just to big. It doesn't matter how old Shaq is, he's going to give Boozer a nightmare with his size. Shaq can drop 20 PPG in this series.

Mehmet Okur vs Kevin Garnett
I'm sure the Jazz thought they had me tamed with an Okur/Shaq matchup. I can't let them outsmart me so I put KG on Okur. Okus will be locked down. KG is too good of a defender, he can defend anybody. Okur always scores from outside because he's quick enough to get there and his opponents usually aren't quick enough. KG is too athletic though, and I except him to lock down Okur. And on offense?? I feel bad for Okur. KG is going to abuse him offensive. KG is just too much.

Williams/Cassell vs Atkins
Williams and Cassell take this easily. They are reall PGs who average 12 APG together, and Atkins is a minority.

Butler/Fred Jones vs Korver
Butler is a great shooter and Jones is a slasher. Both will give their SG a hard time. Korver is also soft.

Finley vs Brewer
You can't mess with experience. Finley is a winner and he's proven it. Brewer will choke in the finals. Finley still scores on double digits.

Etan Thomas vs Gooden
Both are former starters. Etan Thomas is a true defender. Defense wins championships. If he needs help, we just call Shaq or KG.

Magloire vs Millsap
Magloire is also a wild defender and Millsap is still learning. But again, if Mags needs help, we just call Shaq or KG.

Defense wins championships! The only true defender the Jazz have is Artest. The true defenders we have are Hughes, Shaq, KG, Thomas, Magloire, and decent ones in Terry and Carter.

The Nets have advantage in 3 matchups. The Jazz have it in one (Deron vs Terry). Dunleavy and Hughes cancel each other out.

MAY THE BEST TEAM WIN.

Shaq isnt that great, he always fouls out, and Memo gives them problems defending him. VC is good, but the back court for New Jersey is no way near as strong as the Jazz. I'm voting Jazz, in 5/6 games

I still dont see it. Hughes isnt the Defender he once was or who you think he is..

Shaq cant beat Boozer 1v1 IMO..

And Dunleavy won't score with those other guys there, so he'll score like 12 points which is what Hughes gets

AND Hughes plays more defense than Mike so I clearly would take him over Mike D

Shaq is 3-4 inches and dozens of pounds heavier than Boozer, Boozer is talented but Shaq is just too big for Boozer to score on him

Ok, And Shaq won't play as many minutes as boozer will.

Bozzer will beat shaq down the floor every time.

Hughes is a shadow of his washington days, the guy have up afterinking the long term deal with the Cavs, I'm for ohio, trust me I know.

why does it seem like the Nets have twice as many players as the other team?

Because the Jazz only listed their rotation players, the Nets list them all in their depth chart.

It doesn't matter, because KG will be on the floor if Shaq isn't, and I'll play him on Boozer

Boozer and Shaq are both slow, Boozer is a post player, so he's not going to beat Shaq at anything, he's just going to try to score over Shaq who is much bigger, and he's going to miss

Again, I'm not saying Hughes is the better player. I'm talking about in this specific matchup, Hughes vs Dunleavy. Dunleavy scored 19 PPG with the PACERS, a team with no offense whatsoever. Dunleavy will get his few points here but he's the kind of player who can't set up his own shot, he has to wait till Deron decides to set him up after Boozer, Artest, Okur, or Deron himself. They are all better than Dunleavy.

If Dunleavy can set up his own shot, it would be different, but he has to depend on others to set him up so he can score.

Hughes on the other hand, I just need him to play defense. It doesn't matter if he's not the same as before. He's in the FINALS and he's going to do what it takes to win. Since he's not an offensive factor in my team, he's just going to focus on defense, which is perfect for me.

Deron kills Terry.
Dunleavy beats Hughes especially with that huge height advantage.
Artest shuts down Carter and will match or best his scoring.
KG beats Boozer.
Shaq dominates Memo in the paint, Memo scorches Shaq from the perimeter.
Jazz bench is stronger and deeper.

I like the Jazz in this one.

phlp_bj
09-21-2008, 09:19 AM
I went with the Nets in a hard fought series. They are pretty evenly matched at all positions. But like Nets Fan said, the Nets have a lot of crafty veterans with championship experience, which could become handy at the end of games. With Garnett hitting outside jumpers, Shaq powering down low, and VC draining 3's, I say the Nets win the NBA Finals in Game 7.

i really think that Boozer can kill shaq. Shaq is way too old and not very agile. Boozer is young and can beat Shaq up and down the floor. I picked the nets though, beacause they have one of the top power forwards in the game (KG) and I think the Terry-Williams match-up is really closer then people think
