NEW YORK, September 19, 2008 – The NBA announced today that Darius Miles of the Boston Celtics has been suspended without pay for 10 games for violating the terms of the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program at the end of the 2007-08 NBA season. His violation of the program involved phentermine.

Miles’ suspension will begin with the first game of the 2008-09 NBA regular season for which he is eligible and physically able to play.

It's listed as a stimulant on all the banned drugs lists I just googled. Nothing about being a weight loss drug. Got a link?

Maybe it was announced today or made official today but everyone knew Miles would have to serve a suspension if or when he made a comeback to the NBA.

Why would Miles be taking a weight loss drug?? I've never heard of him having a weight problem. This seems awfully suspicious. It would not suprise me one bit if he was using the drug recreationally...

Ink,

You couldn't have looked it up on google unless you spelled it wrong. Every link from google on the first page is for weight loss drugs. Look at wikipedia as well. Perhaps you are too young to remember but Phen Phen was a weight loss drug here in the US and it was banned because of damage that it caused to the heart.

P.S. Most weight loss drugs are stimulants.

first, its a weight loss drug not a narcotic!
second, this news is about half a year old and boston already knew about it when they signed him
its weird how judgemental and stupid a lot of PSD posters are, you guys are so quick to jump on a player and throw out negative comments, i really dont get it sometimes...

I should have been clearer. I went straight to the WADA prohibited list (http://www.itftennis.com/shared/medialibrary/pdf/original/IO_6107_original.PDF) (p.7) and there was no mention of weight loss drugs there. Not saying it isn't, but it's listed with WADA only as a stimulant. Another use of the drug is in recovery for cocaine addiction (http://books.google.ca/books?id=MFbm2SRUUNsC&pg=PA475&lpg=PA475&dq=phentermine+cocaine+addiction&source=web&ots=e53fbQ8g1I&sig=HuT_9v_2xYT22BdGR6xkSp1Tpq4&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=4&ct=result). You're right that it's an anorectic amphetamine (weight loss drug), but it does have other uses.

P.S. Welcome to PSD!

Exactly... It is common knowledge that if Darius Miles were to ever make it back with an NBA team, he would first have to serve a 10 day suspension from a drug violation he received in the 07-08 season.

How would this kill it? In order for Darius Miles' contract to back on Portland's books, Miles must play in 10 games (not just be on the roster for 10 games.) So now in order for him to hurt the Blazers, a team must carry him on the roster and then play him for an additional ten games. If anything, Portland is thrilled because a team will have to carry Miles' for 1/4 of the season in order for his contract to effect them rather than just ten games.

This isnt like breaking news or anything. Miles knew the second he signed with a team the league was gonna slap him with this suspension, and so did the Celtics when they signed him.
