Arenas to miss camp, season's first month

Gilbert Arenas confirmed that he underwent a surgical procedure this morning that "cleaned out some debris" in his left knee. Arenas, who has undergone two surgeries to repair the left knee in the last two seasons, has been limited during the rehab process all summer and said he has planned all along on not participating in training camp or the preseason.

Arenas, who signed a six-year, $111 million contract this summer, said he plans on returning to game action sometime in early December which would mean that he'd miss at least the season's first month. The Wizards open the regular season Oct. 29 at home against New Jersey and play a total of 14 games in October and November.

They play well without him, this good be a good thing for the Wizards. Or it also could be a sign of things to come for a team that never seems to be healthy.

That is crazy. Why would he wait until now to do this when he had all summer?

Probably wanted to get his big contract before he went and got surgery on that damn knee again.

Haha.

111 Million Dollar contract and he is going to miss the first month.

Sucks.

I'm sure they have some kind of clause that will cause him to lose some money. Because i don't think they would guarantee 111 million to someone coming off a knee injury.

Yeah i know what you mean.

What i'm saying is, often times in contracts you have to play X amount of games to get the FULL amount for that year. Looks like he's out until December so now instead of the full 18.5 for this year maybe it drops somewhere between 12-15.

Just a possibility.

Not in basketball. They can do it in baseball and in football

Whats the big deal??? it isnt the whole season. Of course Wiz would like him to be there the first month. But im sure they'll LOVE getting a 100 % Agent Zero mid season than starting it with a less and healthy one. Wiz will be fine. Trust me

BETTER NOT start too slow this year. The east is much tougher than last year. I doubt they'll be able to come back from a 6-15 start or something like that to take a top 4 seed.

Oh really? Ok thanks, is it because of some kind of players union??

$111 million and he wait to do something about this, sucks for Washington

Hmmm....3rd surgery in 17 months. That's not good. He maybe back in Dec but likely gone again sometime in Feb. The Wiz, with that mega contract, just screwed themselves for years as they'll be, at best, a mediocore team for years.

But on the other hand, they play as good or better w/o Gilbert so who knows.

Arenas has been injury-plagued the last few seasons. Why would Washington give him such a huge contract? 3 yrs ago he was playing at an elite level, but nowadays, he's hurt all the time.

Hopefully, Gilbert can play this year, he's one of the best competitors the league has to offer.

Exactly what I was thinking

Anyway, didn't he get his surgery a month or 2 ago? I doubt he'd do this to miss part of the season, I'm guessing complications with his knee showed up recently. He's no Shaq.

I know. The Wiz giving Gilbert Arenas a huge contract was a big mistake. They are better off without him. He is a huge distraction and the Wiz actually seem to play better without him in the line-up.

The really annoying thing about this injury is that now all we are gonna hear from Gilberta is how "scared" every team is to play the Wiz once he's back and how they are the most dangerous team. Whatever.

BrizzleBear
09-18-2008, 07:28 AM
Well that sucks for the Wizards...but im sure they would rather have him come back 100% then rush back into action.

Sixerlover
09-18-2008, 01:35 PM
Come back 100%? Has he ever came back 100% from any of these injuries if he keeps reinjuring the same thing?
