View Full Version : should there be 2 MVPs?

every year there is always big conversations about who really deserves MVP or something like that?

What would you all think about 2 MVPs? you know like in baseball...

Example: Jeter is AL MVP, and Reyes is NL MVP

Example for basketball: Kobe is West MVP, and Lebron is East MVP?

what would you all think of that?

um, it seems like a good idea, but in the NBA, you play the other conference so many games, I don't think it would translate like it does in baseball, where they have a week of interleague games. You get so see LeBron and Kobe go head to head, etc. I do think they need to change the award and not just reward the best player on the best team though. I will throw you this bone my man, Kobe should have won it in 05'. No doubt. But the Lakers record was not there. I think LeBron was more important to the success of his team last year than Kobe was. Obviously debatable. But Cleveland is a 20-62 team without him, Lakers are a 35 win team without Kobe. Speculation for sure, but you get my drift.

Yes, maybe CO-MVPS.

Both Chris Paul and Kobe deserved it last year.

as the Highlander would say, there can be only one. Do you think the Highlander gets carded when he goes to a bar?

hahahahahahaahahaha no.
in baseball the leagues are both different=2 MVP's
In football there are so many players=2 MVP's
basketball has neither but hell anything to suck both kobe AND lebrons dick could be done

Why don't we just give out 300 of them?

Stupid idea...

No. It makes sense for baseball, but not basketball as somebody has already explained.

probably a bad idea.
its been done this way for soo long, it would skew the MVPs, so they wouldnt be worth as much.
although, the way they go about voting, it already is a joke.

Nah. One MVP is good enough. I think it would be really wierd to see EC MVP, and WC MVP. It just would seem really odd to me.

They just need to change how the voting is done, not add another MVP.

Yes/NO. Its a good idea to keep in mind. But instead to like an East bestman/West bset man and an MVp. There cant be to MVP's it would contradict the Most Valuble PLayer!

No because each league in MLB is different. Just the idea in one of them the pitcher actually hits, whereas in the other the DH is the hitter.

how do you know what a team would do w/o kobe or lebron now? we dont. kobe played every game last season. they might be championship caliber w/o them:rolleyes: or they might both be like miami last year.

but as far as the topic...I wouldnt be for it at all. Last year the top 2 were kobe and cp3. even if there were 2 MVP's cp3 would get snubbed

Hotone1401

No there should not be 2 MVP's. However, they should consider having a "Best Player" award. That way there will be less confusion and dissapointment about what an MVP really is. Every year the criteria for winning the award is somehow changed. Having both these awards would be great I think.

the mvp should go to the best player. i hate that best player on the best team crap. everyone sayin kg was an mvp candidate come on switch him with elton brand or antawn jamison and that team still woulda won a ring. of course 3 stars like that are gonna be good.

i disagree. I dont think KG should have been considered at all really, nor lebron, in the MVP award. It was between CP3 and Kobe to me. but KG was vital to that team. You had to have somebody that would instill defense into the whole team, not mess up chemistry, and lets face it also be willing to not steal the show offensively. KG waas the perfect and perhaps only man for the job. Even TD might not have fit in as well because KG is more athletic/mobile.

With the MVP going to the best player, I want to agree but I cant. Sometimes the best player is on a team with no TRUE title contending hope. The MVP should go to the best player on the team with the best chances of winnigng the title, because w/o that star, the team would not be as successful. If there are multiple favorites to take it all, it should go to the literal most valuable to his roster.

As far as a best player award, I wouldnt be against it, but that would be very debatable too. It'd basicaly go to Kobe or Lebron and 1/2 the world would disagree. The actual deciders in who would win that race would be the ones who vote for Wade and CP3. that would skew the totals

No to 2 MVP. Would defeat the purpose. MVP is a lot different then the Rookie of the year which can be hared.

To answer the headline: No. There shouldn't be. Why should we have 2? To satisfy someones bruised ego? Nah. The MVP in basketball stands alone at the top. That's the way it should be.

it's called MOST VALUABLE PLAYER 4 a reason. I do agree that the record shouldn't matter AS MUCH as it does. Of course let's say you were the best player on a team like the timberwolves last year no. But even if you had a decent record you should be able 2 get it.

LakerzDQ

"most valuable player"

changes to "one of the 2 most valuable players"?

noo....
