If you could select one player to hit a game winning shot, who would you select and why? Keep in mind the team is down by a point.

Choices:

T. Mac
Dirk
Kobe
Pierce
Wade
Iverson
Lebron
Duncan

You forgot Gilbert "Buzzer Beater" Arenas in your list.

I'd go with Pierce of course.

If Gilbert was on the list, Id def go with Arenas over Kobe.

When it comes to game winning shots, hes a beast.

Kobe is also great..

Carmelo should be on that list.

I would choose Kobe though from that list, or LBJ since he can take it to the whole at will and will either finish, or get fouled.

Big men like Duncan hardly get the ball at the end of the game, but I would consider it, since most likely he would be posting up and get a good look since he would be closer to the basket then most of the perimeter players.

Dirk I would strongly consider as well, since he usually will have a mismatch and either: A. Get a great look at the basket since he can shoot over a smaller defender, or B. Be able to take a big man off the dribble if they put them on him.

Kobe Bryant. All his buzzer beaters are usually game winning ones. If I'm not mistaken, most of the ones I've seen of Arenas, his team is tied not down by 1 or 2 (Utah, Milwaukee ones?), so I would not assume that he has to be under more pressure than Kobe, or say Ray Allen hitting buzzer beaters.

Jamal Crawford or Zach Randolph.

JK..Kobe hands down.

I'd also say Lebron..but he might end up passing it.

I'd also say Wade too..but the opposing team will know he's taking it in and will definitely collapse on him.

So for me, it's Kobe.

You realize this list was compiled in April 2006 right?

Jalen Rose didn't even play last year.

If I needed 2 points to win i'd be getting the ball to Tim Duncan but if I needed 3 points for the win i'd have to go with, from recent form, Paul Pierce. He made some really critical 3 point shots in the finals against the lakers.

Of the list I guess I'd take Kobe. Right after him it's Lebron. But my real pick (homer, kind of) would be Baron, when he hit that buzzer beater vs. the Celtics last year, ohhh my god. Not to mention I was at that game, amazing.

Kobe Bryant. He is the most clutch player in the game today. He is able to do anything with the ball. He can hit a jumpshot, if needed, or drive to the basket. The problem with Lebron, is that he is a horrendous jump-shooter so if they purposefully clog the lanes then your team has no chance. Kobe Bryant is my choice.

IversonIsKrazy
09-11-2008, 12:27 AM
if ur only down by a point. go for either one of these guys.

LeBron James - Will get to the lane no matter one and will pottienally give u a 3-point play.

Tim Duncan - Hasn't taken many, but when he does he'll make it. 3pointer against suns. hook shot against sonics(2005). weird aquard shot over shaq(2001). hes pretty clutch if given the chance.

AI - best penetration is the league. only down by a point, AI has the ball in his hands, then its all good! will easily draw a foul, or will shake, bake, and drop his favourte shot at the elbow!

Lost Art

This is who I'd take at each position:

PG CP3
SG Kobe
SF Lebron
PF Dirk (he's had his problems in the clutch before but he can shoot FT's and can put it in the hoop from anywhere on the floor)
C Yao (diddo, great FT shooter and has a nice midrange jumper)

i would love to say LeBron right now, but i cant cuz i watched practically every Cavaliers game last year, and he made WAAAY too many bad decisions in the clutch. We'd be down 1, and he'd take a fadeaway 3, he'd have an open lane to the hole, and he'd give it up, he'd force himself at the rim, and run someone over and get called for an offense foul.

I think i have to go with Kobe on this one.

Tim Duncan. A lot of people forget about some of his clutch finishes early on in his career. His shot would likely be much easier than someone elses because he'll be closer. And hell, even if he's not, he proved last year he's enough of a gamer to step outside of his realm when the game is on the line.

LEBRON JAMES- Because he's not afraid to take the shot himself or make the appropriate play himself. That's the kind of player you want when the game is on the line.

IDK how anyone can pick lebron in this... He's proven to NOT be clutch in games, well atleast games I saw. tha choices are clear, love him or hate him... it hasta be KB24. or Melo or Arenas

Well let's see, he hit two game winners against the Wizards and also beaten them passing to the open man, he also scored 29 of Cleveland's final 30 points against Detroit in a VERY BIG GAME in DETROIT. He also single handily scored half of Cleveland's points (45 out of the total 92) against Boston in a big game 7. Sir, you have no idea what the word clutch means.

Out of that list I would choose Kobe. However, I definitely agree with Arenas as being up there as well. And guess what, Ben Gordon (As much as I dislike him) is clutch as hell. I feel so comfortable with the ball in his hands down the stretch. You gotta give Gordon props for not being afraid to take the big shot, and consistently knocking it down...

This is a tricky question. The easy answer is Kobe, but knowing he will be double/triple teamed, makes me want to say Duncan. If I had the option of throwing the ball into Timmy, for a 7-15 foot shot, Id take it. 2004 playoffs vs. the Lakers, anybody?

Kobe, no doubt. We've seen him hit that shot with people all over him, hands in the face, everything.

Second would be LeBron, but that would be for his ability to drive it to the rim, and not necessarily his clutch shot.
