Gaborik headed to Rangers?
It's premature, but some people think that if the Wild are unable to sign star Marian Gaborik soon, he could be traded to the New York Rangers.

not that i wouldnt love gaborik on our team, but does sather honestly have a plan of what he's doing. does he just enter the season and say sign the top guys and trade for the top guys, there is something called a salary cap. i have a feeling that in a few years the rangers might go down under.

I'd rather him score 5 goals for us than 5 goals against us. :)

If we get Gaborik we better be unloading Roszy's $5 mil... true story.

I don't see how this can be true...if the possibility of the Rangers acquiring one of the best wingers in the league was true you'd be hearing it everywhere.

I don't think the Rangers are done this offseason, I think we're still going to see a major trade...but Gaborik? That just seems too hopeful.

I keep hearing about some major trade people think we might make, but realisticly, for who? I see two potential players and thats Gaborik and Kovalchuk. Even then, who do we give up? Whats the deal look like?

Great news. Glad to know.

Can you share any other insightful information? Check that. Maybe just don't participate in NY Rangers threads.

I'll just post in ones that have legit source material behind them, so you won't even have to worry about it.

'Insert player here' to 'insert team here' with a question mark, or multiple marks, threads are the bane of my existence. I don't care that you don't care, either.

personally i think that they have to get either kovalchuk or gaborik this year. it NEEDS to be done for the team to be as good as it was last year. when i look at what sather did this offseason it makes me scratch my head. that team was a very good team. they didnt need to go acquiring random players.

all they needed to do was strengthen up that defense. instead of resigning rosival and signing redden(11.5 mill a year) the rangers should have:

signed brooks oprik (made him their first priority)-- 3.75 mill (same cap hit)
signed mike commodore-- 3.75 mill a year (same cap hit)
signed mark streit--4.1 mill a year(same cap hit)

that makes 11.6 mill instead of 11.5 between rosival and redden... and those are their actual salaries that they have with their teams.

then they could have still traded tyutin and backman for fritshe and zherdev which opens up around 1.5 mill extra

signed paul mara to 1.95 mill for 1 year (as they did)

with not signing kalinin, naslund, voros, and rissmiller the rangers have 11.1 mill left to spend

jagr wanted 2 years 12 mill

avery wanted 3.75 a year at minimum from rangers

resign them both and we have around 1.5 mill left to spend and that we dont.

also still trade hollweg, and then unload betts and orr somewhere opens up more potential space.

Actually, maybe you should try reading my post again. I don't think I mentioned anything about caring what you think.

The point was that if the best you have to offer is telling us you don't like the thread, then take it somewhere else - like to a Wild thread. The point of these threads is to discuss rumors like this.

Rangers36,

I believe the current roster/lines are better than the ones you dreamed up in your offseason. But that's just my opinion...

Totally disagree with you on both Commodore and Streit ...

Commodore's best days are behind him and even during his best days, he was an average player.

As for Streit, unless the plan was to play 7 defensemen, with him only playing as the power play specialist, he would have greatly weaked our defense. He's one-domensional.

Granted, Rosi and Redden were overpaid, but some of that was a result of the market increasing after Campbell signed (greatly overpaid). And regardless, they are much better then Commodore and Streit, so their salaries had to be higher.

I agree with you but on the Streit thing, he would be just as good as Kalinin. I've heard alot of bad **** about him from Sabres fans. But then again I look at his stats and he boasted an impressive +/- for a couple of years. My point with Streit was though he's not exactly 'one-dimensional', because if need be like Christoph Schubert, he can play the wing. And pretty well from what I hear.

Agreed about Rosi and Redden being paid higher than Commodore and Streit. but it wasn't neccessarily Campbell's contract. It was what Toronto gave Jeff Finger. plus we would have lost Rosi to another team for 5 mil per anyway.
