Source: Euroleague.net (http://www.euroleague.net/news/i/33324/180)

Armani Jeans Milano has added some muscle in the paint for next season with the signing of power forward Richard Mason Rocca for the next two seasons. Rocca (204, 30) has played one previous season in the Euroleague, 2006-07 for Eldo Napoli, during which he led the competition in offensive rebounding with 3.5 per game. He has spent all but one season in his professional career in Italy, first with Aurora Basket Jesi, which he helped gain promotion to the top league in Italy, and then the last four seasons with Napoli, where he finished as the team captain. Last season Rocca averaged 11.2 points and 7.9 rebounds in 33 Italian League appearances. The big man also represented Rocca Italy at the World Championships in Japan in 2006, where he averaged 6.3 points and 5 rebounds in 17 minutes per game. Rocca will wear the number 12 for Milano.

Luca Vitali joins Armani Jeans Milano

One of the most promising guards in European basketball switched Italian teams on Wednesday, when Armani Jeans Milano confirmed that combo guard Luca Vitali inked a three-year deal with his new club. Vitali (201, 22) arrives from Premiata Montegranaro, where he has played in each of the last three seasons. He averaged 10.3 points, 3.1 assists and 1.7 steals in 39 Italian League games this season, helping Montegranaro to finish fifth overall and reach the quarterfinals, losing the best-of-five series against Armani Jeans. Vitali has also played for Montepaschi Siena and Virtus Bologna in his short, promising career. Vitali is not a Euroleague newcomer, however, as he already took part in 2 games with Montepaschi at age 18, including the 2004 Third Place game.

Roma captain Tonolli signs for 2 more years

Lottomatica Roma captain Alessandro Tonolli has agreed to a two-year contract extension, keeping the forward at the club for his 15th and 16th seasons. The 2.02-meter Tonolli signed the contract the day after his 34th birthday. He joined Roma from his boyhood club Brescia in November 1994. The veteran forward’s leadership and defense have been a valuable part of Roma’s rise from a mid-table Italian League club to a Euroleague regular. This season Roma advanced to the Italian League finals for the first time in 25 years.

"I am delighted that my adventure continues with Rome," Tonolli said. "Because I believe in the very project of this company. In all these years, every season we made a step forward, until the [Italian League] finals this year, and that bodes well for next season. I'm happy to be a part of this and to have a chance stay with Roma at the top of Italian and European basketball only makes me happy. I want to thank president Toti for having so much confidence in me and I renew my appreciation to him for everything he is doing for basketball in Rome."

Shawn Kemp, Jason Kidd, Earl Boykins and Europe

From: Ball in Europe (http://www.ballineurope.com/trades/shawn-kemp-jason-kidd-earl-boykins-and-europe/)

Being at a basketball camp 24/7 right now does not help in staying on top of things: Today there are 129 new emails in my inbox and a lot of new developments going on. I guess I’m lucky to be at the 76ers camp, where the director has great connections and informs me about current events from time to time.

Wearing this shirt (http://bp0.blogger.com/_ZUwHcs8I_p4/R45b09KFG0I/AAAAAAAAAts/0EuyJ9ru3Io/s1600-h/tshirt_makerainuc_complete.jpg) initiated the latest news tough. As you can imagine, Shawn Kemp is a pretty big deal for Europe. Especially if you grew up in that era with him and Gary Payton. Shawn Kemp was THE deal, right?

Well, Shawn has been offered a contract by Italian club Premiata Montegranaro and if you know a little bit about Shawn’s recent problems, you might want to believe that he be would be more than glad to take this offer.

My five cents: If Shawn Kemp signs in Europe, I am buying season tickets for that team!

Earl Boykins finally took a deal in Europe which many believe he should have done much earlier, like last season, when BallinEurope was already discussing the possibility. Now, Earl has signed with Virtus Bologna, a team which struggled mightily with their Americans last season - Delonte Holland, that is.

As you see, there is no need to speculate, especially when you hear the birds in Olympiakos telling people that even LeBron James is an option in 2010 when his contract is over; let’s talk about that … in 2010.

Let’s keep it realistic - like Jason Kidd realistic. Talking to basketball experts, a Jason Kidd move to Europe would not be surprising to them at all, since nobody is a real fan of him for being on the Olympic team. We might have to talk about Jason Kidd in Europe pretty soon - pretty seriously!

in addition a couple of Israeli websites cited that Kemp has come to a preliminary agreement with the Italian team

Armani Jeans tabs Mike Hall

Armani Jeans Milano bulked up over the weekend with the signing of Mike Hall, a power forward making his Euroleague debut this season. Hall (203, 24) arrives from Tulsa of the NBDL, where he averaged 15.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game last season. He played for Tulsa in 2006-07 as well and also made two appearances for Washington in the NBA that year. Hall made a name for himself with a standout college basketball career at George Washington University in the American capital. He was named to the Atlantic-10 Conference rookie team as a freshman in 2003 and proceeded to lead his team in rebounding all four seasons he played there, earning all-conference second team honors after his junior and senior seasons. He was also named to the all-conference defensive team as a senior.

Fortitudo gets Papadopoulos on loan
Source: EuroCupBasketball.com (http://www.euroleague.net/ulebcup/home/news/i/39947/448/item)

Real Madrid on Thursday announced that it has loaned center Lazaros Papadopoulos to Eurocup team Fortitudo Bologna of Italy for the remainder of this season. Papadopoulos (210, 28) has done it all in continental basketball as one of just three players who have won the Euroleague, ULEB Cup and the European national title this decade. Papadopoulos was also a second-team All-Euroleague selection following a stellar 2006-07 season with Dynamo Moscow. He was signed the following summer by Real Madrid and was averaging 4 points, 2.3 rebounds and 14 minutes per Euroleague game before Thursday's move. Last season, his first with Madrid, Papadopoulos averaged 6.9 points and 3.2 rebounds in 21 minutes per game. After starting his career with Iraklis of Greece as a teenager, Papadopoulos won a Euroleague title in 2001-02, his rookie season with Panathinaikos, by sparking the Greens to one of the greatest comebacks in finals history on the home court of Kinder Bologna. Three summers later, he starred with the Greek national team as it won the European Championships title in Belgrade, Serbia. By the spring of 2006, he was a protagonist for Dynamo Moscow's trophy run in the ULEB Cup, which sent him and the team back to the Euroleague. In 2006-07, Papadopoulos outdid himself, leading Dynamo to the brink of the Final Four with 14.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game for the competition's second-best performance index rating average that season. He was chosen for the All-Euroleague second team as a result. Real Madrid said in its announcement on Thursday that it will retain the contract rights to Papadopoulos after the loan to Fortutido ends at the conclusion of the current season.

Virtus Bologna could be set to part with star point guard Earl Boykins.

The Italian giants have been one of the leading sides in the EuroChallenge this season and big summer-signing Boykins is a big reason why, averaging 15.5 points and 5.5 assists in the team's four victories in as many games.

But club president Claudio Sabatini hasn't been impressed with his player's performances in Lega A since telling the 32-year-old that he wasn't allowed to travel home for four days before Christmas.

The former NBA guard played 17 minutes and failed to score in Virtus' 78-63 Christmas day triumph over Carife Ferrara.

"His (Boykins') behaviour during the game was embarrassing and incomprehensible," Sabatini said.

"My view is that without Boykins we would have won in Caserta as well as against Teramo."

In the December 21 game against Teramo which Virtus lost 80-77, Boykins had 17 points.

"Had he given his best on the court, I would only be partly angry," Sabatini said of the Carife game.

"But playing as he did against Ferrara he has lacked respect for his teammates. In a team, the most experienced players and the highest paid should be the ones to give an example."

Sabatini has left the door open, it seems, for Boykins to remain if he apologizes although the player has yet to even say if he even believes he has done anything wrong.

"We shall see," Sabatini said.

"At this time for me, his contract has not been respected. I cannot see how he can convince me otherwise.

"It's painful for me. Not so much from a financial standpoint but a moral one.

"This is a good team, we work to make it stronger and we won't come off this path."

Brett Blizzard is also apparently out of favor at Virtus.

"If Boykins and Blizzard find another club that satisfies them, then we will all be happy," said Sabatini.

"At Virtus I only ask the players to put love in what they do. If that happens, then the expectations will be met."

Fortutido Wants to buy contact of Papadopoulos
Source: The Hoop Blog

Real wanted to get rid of him and Fortitudo can't get enough of him.. Shocking as it may sound Fortitudo Bologna have found their messiah in Lazaros Papadopoulos(2.10-C) who has been given a second chance to prove that he is not wasted goods, according to marca.com.

The Greek center is going through a renaissance of sorts, as a player of Fortitudo, averaging 11.2 points and 8 rebounds so far in the 6 games he has played. Hence Fortitudo want to buy off his contract from Real Madrid.

Zoran Savic, the GM of Fortitudo explained this phenomenon: "Lazaros is a player that needs the team to play for him in order to get into the game. In Real there would be times that he wouldn't touch the ball even after 3 consecutive offensive rounds or he would get minimal contact with it. Despite his limitations he knows the game very well".

01-16-2009, 02:39 AM
still weird he was on the Celtics the same time as Ray Allen

01-16-2009, 04:11 AM
I'm pretty sure he was still with them for the 07-08 preseason

01-18-2009, 03:44 PM
this might seem kinda random, but how is earl boykins playin? i remember he got signed this offseason.(for 3.5M)
i found his game log, but i was wondering if hes considered good or what, and the opinion on his all around game vs. a euro league.

i see he has racked up a pretty solid amount of points.

01-18-2009, 07:47 PM
his team doesn't compete in the Euroleague so I don't really know what people think about his game

EDIT: according to Eurobasket.com, he is averaging 15.5 pts a game after scoring 5 pts in 24 minutes versus Benetton in the Italian league. he is also averaging 5.5 assist per game.
