He's giving it away, reportedly. Amazing.

Most people, when they get an Olympic gold medal hang onto it for dear life. Jason Kidd, who played on the Olympic basketball team however is giving his away. And to whom? No other than Elaine Wynn, wife of casino mogul Steve Wynn. It turns out that Kidd met Mrs. Wynn last year while he and the rest of the U.S. team were staying at the Wynn while training in Las Vegas. They got to talking over a banquet and Kidd promised that if the team won the gold he would give her his medal. No, he's not in debt to the house, Kidd says it's just a thank you because "the way they treated us at the Wynn, it was the least I could do." I'm hoping the Wynns display the medal at one of their hotels.

What a dumb move. If he's going to give it away, give it to a productive cause. Steve Wynn's wife sure as hell doesn't need it.

WTF?!? That's so stupid. If he is going to give it away he should do something productive, give it to some kids, or have a contest or I don't know something really special. Don't give to some rich person.

^ agreed. Nice gesture, but cmon. If I were to give a gold medal away it would be to a charitable organization. Or a fans dying wish or something like that.
Still takes pride to give that kinda thing away.

I would have shown him a great time too if I got a gold medal. J-Kidd is my boy, but that is a little ridiculous. After all that effort you wouldn't want to hold on to that as a memory of your accomplishment? I sure would.

Well maybe the Wynn's will auction it off for charity or something. Or donate it some worthy cause. this is certainly a lame move, but whatever, kidds still got another one...

i think its good gesture on kidd's part, not what i would have done, but a good gesture.

and if he wasnt in the olympics team usa doesnt win the gold medal im telling you right now.

Why is everyone so against what he did?

Wynn Casino will more than likely display it for EVERYONE to see. How many of you have ever seen an Olympic GOLD medal before? There aren't too many better places to showcase the medal than Las Vegas.

If he is going to give it away, it should be to charity.
Maybe Mrs. Wynn gave him something while they were in her husband's estate.

He should of taken a dump on the medal rather than giving it to her.

Maybe the Wynns plan to auction it or give it to a charity after they've displayed it for a while. It's an odd thing to do, but it is his medal.

Because 95% of NBAers would've killed for the opportunity to have a chance to win that gold medal. I personally feel like it's absolutely ridiculous to give it away in the first place, especially to a casino owner who doesn't remotely need it. I think it really cheapens the value for the people that work for their whole lives to get it when a millionaire just hands it over to another as a seemingly whimsical thank you. If nothing else, put it up for auction through a charity where Wynn can just outbid others for it and in the process, have some positive benefit come from it.

lmao dude. pick a random poor kid and give him a gold medal. "here, give this to your mama so she can put some food on the table"

it's Kidd's medal, he can do whatever he wants with it. it has more of a sentimental value than monetary value.

I think it was a good move. It will be put on display, probably at the Wynn, where everyone can see it and will probably have a display telling the story of the 2008 Redeem Team. If he put it up for auction he would've donated the money to charity, yeah, but what happens to the medal then? Put in some private collection, never to be seen again? Maybe it shows up around 50 cent's neck in a video. Next to donating it to a museum, this is probably the best thing.

Kidd isn't any sort of traitor for giving away a medal, but he could've at least given it to somebody more deserving than some millionaire's lazy, overindulged wife.
