BEIJING (Olympics) - Ricky Rubio will become the youngest basketball player to receive a medal at the Olympics on Sunday after Spain's clash with the United States in the title game.

The 17-year-old Rubio will overtake Vladimir Tatchenko, who won bronze at the 1976 Olympics as a member of the USSR team.

Rubio doesn't turn 18 until October 21.

The DKV Joventut Badalona playmaker should play a lot of minutes against the Americans with Spain's first-choice point guard Jose Manuel Calderon set to miss the game through injury.

Rubio has averaged 4.6 points, three assists and 3.7 rebounds per game.

"I don't know if this could happen again, to reach an Olympic final," Rubio said.

"It's a dream for me. Just imagine, I didn't know four months ago if I was going to be included in the national team and now to be in an Olympic final - it's something that only few players have the chance to experience."

Rubio wants to make the most of the opportunity.

"Whether you are 17 or 28, you have to face it the same way," he said.

"This could be the first and last final you play at the Olympics."
