View Full Version : Rudy Fernandez DUNKS over Dwight Howard in Gold Medal Game

If you missed the game, you should really try to find a way to watch the re-run or something. Spain put up a Very respectable fight, and did so without their starting point guard, and a possible future allstar in the NBA, Jose Calderon. Nevertheless, team USA did what everybody knew it would, and beat Spain. The final score was 118-107. Team USA was down by like 6 or 7 points at most all game, which was the most they'd trailed to anybody in the Olympics. Spain kept the game close and interesting the entire way, trailing by no more than 10-15 points all game, and going on runs to cut the deficit repeatedly. Pretty cool for Laker fans to be able to say their team's two stars are Olympic Silver and Gold medalists.

Anyways, back to Rudy Fernandez. This guy has a Lot of talent. He played extremely well in the Gold Medal game, racking up 22 points on 7/13 shooting, including Five 3pointers, and this AMAZING drive in dunk over/past Dwight Howard...

As if the Blazers don't have enough young talent, and as if they didn't draft enough of a potential stud in Jerryd Bayless, they ALSO have Rudy Fernandez (oh, and Greg Oden) joining them next season. This is a team many are saying can make the 7th or 8th seed in next years' playoffs, but I'm willing to take it a step further and say if they all stay healthy, play together well, who knows, they could win 50+ next season. (Believe you me, I don't want them to make the playoffs... I'm just frightened by the high possibility of that happening.)

That was Kobe's fault. He should not have gone for the steal. Dwight got the bad end of it though

HA! He took the dumbest shot in the first half and SPRAYED it. Rubio had D-Will on skates the whole time LOL

agreed. You can't stop a 6'7" player from dunking if he has that big of a running start. Kobe shouldn't have tried to go over the top for a steal.

I have to agree with that. But also like Ginobili, the guys got talent. You can't help but be impressed.

I'll tell you what I do expect... 25 and 15 out of Dwight Howard next season. That'd be amazing. As for Rudy, I wonder how much of a role he'll have on the Blazers next season? I can see him being a solid reserve 2 or 3, he may even start a few games.

Yeah it was kobe's fault but he made up for it with a 4 point play.

I'm still trying to get over Juan Carlos Navarro's running floaters that kept dropping. They all looked like the luckiest/most bs shots ever (besides Rudy's 3), but he wasn't missing any of them...

meh, he didn't really dunk over him, Dwight was alongside him, out of position, and he clearly didn't give it his best jump... it was ok, but not overly impressive.

Dunk was nice but it wasnt OVER howard. Blazers got themselves a nice young player to help them get into the playoff picture

He dunked over the block. I'm not trying to humiliate or downplay Dwight Howard... the guy is a freaking beast. Rudy got the better of him this play, but probably wouldn't have such success most of the time against Dwight.

I wouldnt say he dunked OVER him. He had the angle and was past him already.

No, man.....not lucky. He was that good with the Grizzlies last year.....routinely hit the teardrops and rained 3's. Grizz FO couldn't match (or wouldn't) his lucrative European deal back in Spain. He will be missed enxt season.

He didn't really dunk OVER Dwight. More like off to the side...

Howard was running behind Fernandez so I wouldn't consider it as a dunk on Howard. He just got beat to the basket.

Without taking anything away from fernandez it wasn't over him. It was to the side and howard was coming to help.

I also have to say that Fernandez is probably going to be a great player in the NBA and the Blazers should feel lucky to have him along with their already great mix of young players.

I hope Mcmillan realizes his upside and just does not bury him on the bench because of Roy or specially Bayless, I think Bayless is not even close as Nba ready as Rudy, and by the way what does it matter if it was over, side or whatever of howard, it was a great play.

mainly the pgs fault for letting him get to the lane so easily

It was a great dunk, but NOT over Dwight Howard, which would happen up there with VC dunking over the french dude. But yeah it was a good dunk, Howard went to challenge, to block it, and Rudy slamed it down. He is a very athletic player that can shot. Portland should definitely keep this guy.

thanks for the link nets fan...yes it was more over d12 than i thought, but he was already past him, but still nice. he either shouldnt have jumped or shouldve timed it better

hey hey it wasnt OVER dwight! Rudy was just much quicker and dwight couldnt catch up wiz him...

Dwight will block the **** out of Rookie Rudy if he ever want to dunk OVER dwight...

ive been following rudy for a while now (ever since the Blazers traded for him)
he definately reminds me of manu
should prove to help be a vital part of the blazers bench as he adds shooting and defence
