dude this team has been a three year process. paul pierce was not as good back then and guys like duncan didnt want to commit that much time to the team. also i would much rather have howard and bosh over kg atleast these young guys play hard all the time unlike kg who didnt care until he had an opportunity. that does not send a very good message.

I can't take anything away from team U.S.A, this team was constructed great. If I had my choice of players it would be:

Lebron, Kobe, Wade, Melo, KG, Duncan, Paul, D. Howard, D. Will, Kidd, Amare, Redd.

With all that being said, I think the team we had was great. The guys that wanted to make the sacrifice were on the team. It was a 3 year commitment and it certainly paid off. We have the gold medal after 8 long yrs!!!

If i remember correctly PP was one of the biggest reasons why Team USA started its decline. In the world championship in Indiana he was terrible, took to many shots while not making a single one.

Would have loved to see KG, but he only cares about winning the NBA championship, cause he already got his gold in 2000

It's true they we'rent invited but its because KG wasn't interested and he already had his gold and while the rest of the 12 players on the redeem team we're thinking about the olympics kg and pierce we're thinking about winning championship rings

Pierce wasn't invited which we already know but like I said KG declined and I laugh at the idea of him not being needed. He would of manhandled pau gasol like he did in the nba finals. congrats though to team usa

Josh Howard, Luke Ridnour, Shane Battier and Brad Miller are among those going to training camp with Team USA. Allen Iverson is not.

Through league sources, ESPN.com has learned the identities of the NBA players on the preliminary roster for the U.S. national team, whose director, Jerry Colangelo, will make the news public Sunday.

NBA players on Team USA's training camp roster
Carmelo Anthony, Denver
Gilbert Arenas, Washington
Shane Battier, Memphis
Chauncey Billups, Detroit
Chris Bosh, Toronto
Bruce Bowen, San Antonio
Elton Brand, L.A. Clippers
Kobe Bryant, L.A. Lakers
Dwight Howard, Orlando
Josh Howard, Dallas
LeBron James, Cleveland
Antawn Jamison, Washington
Joe Johnson, Atlanta
Shawn Marion, Phoenix
Brad Miller, Sacramento
Lamar Odom, L.A.Lakers
Chris Paul, NO/Okla. City
Paul Pierce, Boston
Michael Redd
Luke Ridnour, Seattle
Amare Stoudemire, Phoenix
Dwyane Wade, Miami

The list includes All-Stars Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Gilbert Arenas, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Chauncey Billups and Paul Pierce, but it does not include a player -- Iverson -- who was a member of the 2004 U.S. Olympic team and had expressed strong interest in playing again for USA Basketball.

Among those who declined to play were Kevin Garnett, Jermaine O'Neal, Vince Carter, Ray Allen, Jason Kidd, Tracy McGrady, Richard Hamilton, Rashard Lewis, and Tayshaun Prince.

Colangelo has not revealed all the players he has invited, but sources around the NBA helped ESPN.com compile the following list of players who have been asked to report to training camp in Las Vegas in mid-July and who are expected to attend.

Yah. That is why Kevin Garnett shot a career low 42% in a playoff series...

Cause they are Celtics. Its a well know fact that the first day you are a Celtic, you have to kick baby kittens all day your first week of practice. Peta was going to be in Beijing so we didnt need that drama

you have no idea what you are saying. Pierce is JUST as good now as he was 2-3 years ago. He just got more national attention this last year. As for KG not trying hard all the time? Are you crazy? he is probabaly the HARDEST worker in the NBA. He plays his heart out all 48 minutes.

There not on the team because they couldnt commit to the 3 year contract.

do they just want some time off?

...because a NBA Championship is a greater prize than an Olympic Gold won verses the farm leagues in europe and south america. They'd rather rest and go after the real prize.

Ok he never gets in troble on the court what were those gang sign he was throwin up in the atlanta series or was that i love u sign lol. He was putting up blood signs which is sayin hes a member and u get dealt with when u mess with him. Usa also looks at how u represent the USA team off the court. Secondly excludin KG nobody in the NBA players on the team dont really like the celtics anymore.
for the guy who said I really dont think you know what really goes into it all.
Yea i do they want people who can conduct themselves off and on the court. Answer 1 question why hasnt PP bein invited to play wid team Usa talk all the **** u want but at te end of the day u know its true. I NEVER SAID HE CANT BALL I JUS SAID THEY DONT WANT HIM

Do I sense sour grapes from Paul Pierce winning NBA Title & MVP of Finals.
And by the way what you say certainly doesn't fit Pierce but could kobe.

Because both of them are kind of old. I do wish Garnett would play. His enthusiasm and hustle would inspire everyone. Pus we need a big man.

That has to be the dumbest comment I have ever seen. EVERYONE knows that Garnett has more passion than ANYONE else in the league..What an idiotic post.

To answer the original question, Garnett has been done with the Olympics since 2000. He was invited in 2004, but he declined because he was getting married. He declined this year, as well.

KG is the most passionate player with talent to play in the NBA in a long time. He's been playing defense long before it became popular. Let's face it international ball isn't the same as it used to be........ it's better. I'd like to see us pick 6-8 All Stars and several role players to fill the team. A couple of defensive stoppers, a rebounder, a shot blocker and a three point specialist or two to go along with King James, Chris Paul and Deron Williams.

By the way how does the Truth get put in the hothead category and you fail to mention all the problems Carmello has had since he's been in the NBA??

OH BOY ANOTHER one. Im glad KG won the big 1 hes 1 of my favourite players so no sour grapes there im allways a lakers fan if they win it or not. I like boston b4 the playoffs i even have a pierce handicap jersey lol. After the playoffs they went 2 far with there **** talkin in the laker and atlanta series. Alot of players around the league dont really like them anymore. Kobe lol was the biggest star in china he got the micheal jackson treatment in china and still put his team first. Thats what there lookin for when they pick the U.S.A team ok enough about pierce they dont want him they dont want him and o yea they dont want him. How bout amare and bringin tmac 4 the first time.

Pierce has been an all star for years, not sure if he didn't make the cut or what. I didn't even think he wanted to be on the team. KG already won a gold, he didn't want any part of it, and Duncan swore of FIBA basketball because he thought the refs in 04' had it out for him. Amare was recovering from his knee, and didn't want to commit for 3 years.

BigSix316

Duncan said after 04 that he would never play international ball again, because he didn't like the officiating.

Him and KG both turned down the opportunity right off the bat from Colangelo.

When Pierce was approached to play, he said he didn't want to make the three-year commitment that was required. He didn't say anything about wanting to play until this past spring.

So he had a chance to be a part of the pool of players, but chose not to be.

both deserved to be there but they had players already picked out 3 years ago...not to mentioned they already had players that were the same style as pierce in lebron and kobe so theres really no use for him...

i still dont like the choice of players even tho they won gold... i think it woulda been alot easier if they got more pure shooters and big men.... guys like ray allen, mike miller chandler ect.... idk if its just me but players like lebron and kobe seem to shoot better wen theres 3 players draped all over them than they do wen theyre wide opem
