The Kansas City Star reports that Alex Gordon has been diagnosed with a torn quadriceps muscle in his right leg and is expected to be placed on the disabled list.
Gordon left Thursday's game with quadriceps soreness and a tear would almost certainly sideline him for the remainder of the season. Aside from trading some stolen bases for an increase in walks, Gordon has posted very similar numbers (.254/.349/.420, 14 homers, 51 RBI) to his disappointing rookie season (.247/.314/.411, 15 homers, 60 RBI). Gordon is still just 24 years old, but the former No. 2 overall pick and college player of the year has seen his long-term stock drop dramatically.

That's not good to say the least. He will be missing some time with that. I think that basically will conclude his season. I don't think they have any kind of chance so it's better for them to shut him down. I feel bad for the kid, he's had a good year. Nice run, get ready for next year and make it an even better season.

Well this sucks. But Beltran had the same thing and he's fine now. Save him for next season. Move Teahan to third for the rest of the year and give Gathright or someone else a chance.

That's a shame. There goes his season. Hopefully he can go out, rehab in the offseason, and prepare for a good year next year. I'm waiting for that dominant top 3B type season.

Initially reported as a torn quadriceps muscle, the Royals are now calling Alex Gordon's injury a torn hip flexor.

He's scheduled to undergo an MRI exam Thursday and has not been cleared to begin even light baseball activities, making a return this season unlikely.

He's not coming back this season. Take your time and let him be healthy for next season.
