View Full Version : Can LeBron James play center in the NBA??

lakers4sho
08-22-2008, 06:39 PM
We've seen glimpses of him playing center in the Olympics, and it doesn't seem that bad. He seems to be able to match up with centers from other countries.

Also, we've seen guys his height such as Ben Wallace and Dennis Rodman dominate the inside.

And we all know that LeBron is at least a couple of notches better than those players. So my question is, can he play center in the NBA??

Yeah, that sounds about right. I mean seriously, asking if LeBron could play C is like asking if Mike James couldn't play all 5 positions at once. The answer is so obvious on both accounts its just plain foolish to bring it up. Of course bron can't play C and of course Mike James can play all 5 positions at once, hes done it on 4 occasions to win NBA titles.

Reyes6
08-22-2008, 08:53 PM
Why would you want him to?

A great idea would be to start Mutombo at PG for the Rockets. Good luck trying to shoot over that.

Only reason he is playing center anyway is because Dwight is the only true center on the team, that I recall. Because Yao is chinese, Shaq is declining, and Kaman is... *Sigh* a german citizen now.

I would rather have a cardboard cut-out of Hakeem the Dream than Lebron.

Basically. He could be serviceable as a center. He won't be Shaq, but he could definitely provide a stopgap if necessary.

The thing is, I doubt it will ever be necessary.

LeBron James can do pretty much whatever he wants on the court in an NBA game.

But the thing is that he simply cannot guard guys like Yao Ming, Duncan & Z.

He can guard big guys such as KG, Jermaine O'Neal, Elton Brand, Chris Bosh, etc.

But he can't guard those huge NBA C's. He simply isn't big enough, even though he is extremely strong.

But then again if they were matched up vs one another, they wouldn't stand a chance of stopping him either. No big man can guard him. Heck, nobody can guard him.

AllTheWay
08-23-2008, 01:40 AM
I doubt that they would their center guarding Lebron if the Cavs ever used Lebron at center. Remember what happened to the Nuggets when they tried to put a small lineup on the floor against the lakers( Kmart on Kobe). Same thing would happen to Cavs. WOuld get destroyed inside

What?

KMart on Kobe would be a big lineup for Denver.

And KMart was actually more successful on him than any of Denver's other players. AI & Carter are too small. Kleiza & Melo aren't quick enough. Foul trouble limited KMart though.

The bottom line is that the Cavs don't need LeBron to play C. They have a very serviceable, former All Star C in Zydrunas Ilgauskas. He still is a borderline All Star at the position. He's just as good as Sheed, IMO. And we also have another former All Star C in Ben Wallace. So LeBron will never be pushed into such a situation.

He would give up some being posted, but how does any big slow center match up when Lebron is on the Offensive?

Nobody can play all 5 at a top level. Magic is an exception, but not day in and day out. KG can cover the 5/4/3 on offense and especially defense better then LeBron, and he could probably match LeBron at the 2 on offense, so what's this insanity of LeBron playing 5 positions or the 5?

How about this question? Will he spit the bit in the playoffs again this coming year? My dough says yes.

I believe the title of this thread is CAN LeBron James play C? Of course he could. LeBron James could play any position he wanted to. But he is much more effective handling the ball on the perimeter than playing with his back to the basket so he plays a position that will maximize the use of his abilities. But he's certainly big enough to play C. Magic played C for a game when Kareem was hurt in the Finals. He scored 42 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, dished out 7 assists and had 3 steals in that game (although he played a little bit of every position that night) in a series-clinching win. Of course after that he went back to PG.

So yes, LeBron James CAN play C in the NBA. But why in the world would he?

I think Lebron could play center in the NCAA and the International game but not the NBA. It really is a dumb question because you would have to be pretty stupid to put Lebron at the 5. That would pretty much inhibit from doing alot of the natural things he is using to doing by making him play post defense for an entire game. Just pointless.

Of course he could play center! He would just be terrible defensively.

That is true. There is no doubt that he can put points playing center in the paint. But he would be terrible on defense.

LeBron has the athletic ability to play any position on the floor at any time. Would his production decrese at Center? Most likely. But that's not to say he couldn't do it.

Ben Wallace was originally measured at 6'7" in the 1996 NBA Pre Draft Camp, and only an idiot will believe in the height and weight listing on NBA.com.

They don't update it, and some players grow in their early 20's just like Kevin Garnett and LeBron James.

hey dipshit try 6'8 240, i know u love him and everything but just because i like jordan doesnt mean he was 6'7'' 240................you should definitly consider deactivating your account, LYING is for CHILDREN

Hey Jabroni Michael Jordan is 6'4 3/4, and he was originally listed at 6'5" in College, but after he became a Superstar he was listed at 6'6" in the NBA.

And to answer the F*cking question LeBron will not play the Center position because he don't have a back to the basket game, and He's more effective playing the SF position because of his power & athleticism that's why he's capable of destroying smaller defenders because of his large frame.

I can see him moving to the PF Spot in his early 30's because he will no longer rely on his Superior Athletic Ability.

Against a team like Chicago where Drew Gooden plays Center he can. He is about as big as he is.

he's not physical enough....he's mad strong by using his momentum from his speed, but he isn't a player that gonna push around guys....Lebron also wine alot from contacts from the reps, imagine him battling against Dhoward downlow.....maybe in the future, but not right now....

It all depends on the matchup. If a team is going small, then he could play Center for a bit. Could he start at Center? No. I could see him starting at PF, but again, it depends on the matchup against the other teams' PF.
