Edit: Are we talking about guys just in general who played for a team, because clyde, when he was on the rockets wasn't antying real special, but if we're just talking about clyde the player in general and not his rockets years, it makes a difference.

As always for the Jerry west V Kobe I use a couple posts from a thread a while back

As far as individual physical skills and athleticism, Kobe has it for sure. As far as who has the most rings, Kobe for sure (but that has more to do with Bill Russell and the Celtics than it does with Jerry West, so even then...). Kobe is better rebounder. Although West is underrated as a defender, Kobe is probably better.

As far as who's the smarter player, it's definitely west. West is also the better teammate. West also had a better grasp of how best to help his team win. It may not seem like it in terms of championships, but as I said, that has a lot more to do with Wilt and Russell than it does with West. He was also a better, more efficient passer. He was more careful with the ball (fewer turnovers). I think that West was, in all likelihood, a better locker room presence, although Kobe has made strides in that department for the first time this year.

I think they are comparable in the shooting department and in the Clutch department, in that both are as good as it gets.

Although Kobe excels according to a greater number of criteria, West excels in those criteria that I find more important. Therefore, I choose West.

PG Joe Johnson (Tough decision but I went with J.J. for his size and athleticism.)

SF Shawn Marion (Matrix vs Worthy would be interesting)
PF Charles Barkley (Odom can't even sniff Sir Charles jock)
C Shaquille O'Neal (This would be an interesting matchup.)

Im assuming that all players are at their peak for this battle since different decades are represented. You chose Kareem over Shaq so he's fair game.

Yeah but Matt Carrol has the White-Kid-from-Notre-Dame working against him. But you could always replace him with Kyle Weaver.

As far as Boykins goes, he could be the sixth-man to patrol the paint, but as far as cracking the Bobcats all-time starting 5...ehh, just not enough talent.

Why is Lamar Odom on the Lakers All-Time squad?

I would probably insert Wilt Chamberlain there or move Kobe to SF and Worthy to PF and bring West in at SG. But Lamar Odom should never be on the Lakers All-Time team with so much greatness associated with that franchise.

GregOden#1
08-21-2008, 03:20 AM
PG: Jerry West (31/6/5/50% and an insane 25% draw foul rate)
SG: Magic Johnson (24/12/6/52%)
SF: Elgin Baylor (35/20/5/43%)
PF: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (26/13/4/3(blocks)/55%)
C: Wilt Chamberlain (27/18/4/57%)

That beats the original team easily.

Yeah Johnson over Nash, you make sense. How many MVP's does Johnson have again and what about Nash. Hmmm I think its 2-0 for Nash.

of Kevin Johnson?

I don't recall this being said as a condition of team selection. Just this.

I'd probably have to go with...

C- Patrick Ewing
PF- Willis Reed
SF- Jerry Lucas- 4th All-time leading rebounder in NBA history, ave. 15.6/gm.
SG- Earl Monroe
PG- Walt Frazier

That's probably the best team I could come up with, but I'm still not sure how well they'd bode against the All-time Laker squad.

If all in their prime, heck no. But if we are basing the players as they were when on the team then yes because Wilt wasn't as great with the Lakers as he was with the Warriors or Sixers.

Like people putting Hakeem on toronto makes no sense because he was simply washed up at that time. Or putting Shaq on Phoenix is another example.

I think it is only fair using the players how they were when they played for the team, not when everyone was in their prime and just putting them on the team they eventually played for.

Im really bored at work so i decided to figure out career stats for what I thought would be a good match-up with the Lakers vs. the Knicks... (all stats are from nba.com) if you have any questions.. go there, thanks!

magic- 19.5/ 7.2 boards/ 11.2 ***.
kobe- 25/ 5.3 boards/ 4.6 ***.
baylor- 27.4/ 13.5 boards/ 4.3 ***.
wilt- 30.1/ 22.9 boards/ 4.4 ***.
kareem- 24.6/ 11.2 boards/ 3.6 ***.

VS.

frazier- 18.9/ 5.9 boards/ 6.1 ***
monroe-18.8/ 3.0 boards/ 3.9 ***.
lucas- 17/ 15.6 boards/ 3.3 ***.
reed- 18.7/ 12.9 boards/ 1.8 ***.
ewing- 21/ 9.8 boards/ 1.9 ***.

Total Team Averages: Lakers pts:126.6, boards: 60.1, ***: 28.1
Knicks pts: 94.4, boards: 47.2, ***: 17

I guess its safe to say statistically, Lakers are dominant on the offensive end. Pretty sure they're equally as good defensively but im too lazy to find defensive stats, sorry! Fresh Prince, good work!

I guess the player in general. When he was in his prime.

Nice work on your part too. You could also Slide Shaq to the 4 since Wilt only had a few dominant years as a Laker.

Shaq was actually quick in the early part of his Laker days and did a good job guarding guys like Sheed Duncan and Webber.

The Lakers can assemble the best starting 5 of all time period. This is leaving out greats like West: Worhty: Mikan:etc.

If you're talking about overall career not just a stint:
