It looks like Terry Francona isn’t going to have to choose between Jed Lowrie and Julio Lugo at shortstop for a while. Lugo, who had been making great strides in his comeback from a right quadriceps strain on July 11, aggravated the injury running sprints and will probably have to shut it down again for a while.
Lugo had been gradually increasing the intensity of his sprints and returned to the batting cage on Monday for the first time since originally suffering the injury. We’re waiting to hear on how severe Lugo’s injury is.

I hate being a jerk, but him out of action can only make us better.

Not surprised at the reactions. I hate to be happy about an injury, but he doesn't help the team.

I agree with the above sentiment. I don't like being happy about an injury, but I also like the fact that Tito doesn't have the option to use Lugo.

im not happy about the injury. what it does to get him back is have an upgrade over cora as a back up. i dont think francona would start him.

I don't think there is really anybody too overly disappointed to hear about this...

What a shame. I can't say that i'm saddened by that. In fact, I'm actually glad

judging by Francona's history of sticking with the vet's, i was beginning to dread that he might have actually gone with lugo...

and lugo is not an upgrade over cora as a back up.

I tried my hardest to support Lugo... but you can't argue that we are a much better team with Jed at short...

"You hear this? It's the sound of the world's tiniest violin...." Mr. Pink

A few months back my 11 year old son and I came up w/ some lyrics about Lugo... I believe some of the them were:

- Lugo, the Red Sox's Yugo...

- Lugo, you giant loogie...

- Lugo, you make me sick-oh...

You get the idea. We hate him here in my home... just release the giant sack of wastage, and be done already.

Hopefully he is done for the year. That's what I'm hoping for.
