Astros Sign Jose Castillo

According to Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle, the Astros claimed infielder Jose Castillo off waivers today. Castillo will be Astros property for '09 as well, if they want him (he's still arbitration-eligible).

The 27 year-old hit .244/.290/.381 in 420 plate appearances for the Giants while seeing time at second base, shortstop, and third base.

Npt a big fan but he should strictly be a bench player and used for a spot start.

He was on the Giants before he got released.

He looks like a solid pickup. It's not like he's going to be the difference maker that wins a ton of games for the Astros and puts them past the Brewers for the wild card, but hey it will help the team score some more runs as well as keep the other team from scoring runs.
