In 2005 he had 26 HR and 78 RBI for Houston, so maybe he can be pretty useful off the bench.

could be a good guy off the bench

Hey, why not.

He'll be up when rosters expand in September, so it's not like he'll take one of the 25 spots away from someone more deserving.

The Red Sox signed veteran corner outfielder Jason Lane to a minor-league deal on Tuesday, reports the Globe's Nick Cafardo. Lane, 31, was released from the Yankees' class AAA affiliate earlier in the season. His best season was in 2005, when he hit 26 homers and knocked in 78 runs for Houston. Cafardo reports that he is a likely candidate for a call-up when rosters are expanded on September 1.

we havn't had too much of an issue dealing with baltimore... granted the manny for tejada trade never worked out, but let's be honest that wouldn't have worked out even if they werent in our division...

plus didn't we trade adam stern to them for javy lopez a few years back in a situation similar to this right now (them being way out of it and us being in the thick of the races) ?

i just think you might be over playing the the whole division thing with Baltimore.

happens with every Yankee player. Look at Sexson, Pudge (aka the best signing ever), arod, and so on.

I've always enjoyed Jason Lane..he does show power and at 31 years old, he's not washed up completely.

Bobby Kielty type player

 Good sign

Yep...risk free addition to roster depth. Painless with good potential. Well done.
