Game 1

Monday, August 18 - 7:05 ET

http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_452657.jpg-------http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_425386.jpg

BOS: LHP Jon Lester (11-4, 3.25) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/l/lestejo01.shtml) vs BAL: RHP Jeremy Guthrie (10-8, 3.18) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/g/guthrje01.shtml)

Red Sox: Coming off a blistering 19-17 win the night before, Boston looked to Lester for guidance toward a less strenuous outing last Wednesday. The young lefty didn't disappoint, picking up his 11th win in convincing fashion. Lester pounded the strike zone, rarely missing an opportunity to put away a batter. He scattered seven hits and three runs in 7 1/3 innings in an 8-4 Boston victory. In the process, he improved to 8-1 in his last nine decisions dating back to June 5 against Tampa Bay.

http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/players/action/ph_452657.jpg

Orioles: Guthrie has won seven of his past eight decisions and has allowed just one earned run in eight of his past 14 starts. The right-hander has lost just twice since the beginning of June and has hurdled to the top of the American League leaderboard in quality starts (18). Baltimore has gone 10-4 in his past 14 outings.

Game 2

Tuesday, August 19 - 7:05 ET

http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_493137.jpg-------http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_425555.jpg

BOS: RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka (14-2, 2.74) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/matsuda01.shtml) vs BAL: RHP Daniel Cabrera (8-7, 4.78) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/c/cabreda01.shtml)

Red Sox: Dice-K rolled in his last start against the Rangers, hurling seven innings of shutout ball on his way to a team-leading 14th victory. It was in typical Matsuzaka fashion -- he worried little about pitch counts, walked three batters in his first two innings and still managed to blank one of the most potent lineups in baseball. Texas only managed six hits against him, scattered throughout the contest. He'll take the hill against the Orioles for the second time in 2008 on Tuesday. His last bout with Baltimore ended in a 2-1 win on July 13.

http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/players/action/ph_493137.jpg

Orioles: Cabrera is one win away from matching his victory total in 2006 and 2007. If he continues to keep his walks down, exceeding 10 wins for the second time in his career is a possibility. The up-and-down righty has held opponents to three or fewer free passes in five straight starts, something he had not done in three years. Cabrera has been his erratic self in four starts against Boston this season, compiling a 1-1 record with a 4.63 ERA.

http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/players/action/ph_425555.jpg

Game 3

Wednesday, August 20 - 7:05 ET

http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_453329.jpg-------http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_425561.jpg

BOS: RHP Clay Buchholz (2-8, 6.35) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/b/buchhcl01.shtml) vs LHP Chris Waters (1-0, 4.32) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/w/waterch01.shtml)

Red Sox: Buchholz hasn't pitched since Aug. 10 against Chicago. His regularly-scheduled start was originally pushed back three days due to Paul Byrd's arrival in Boston, then it was pushed back to Wednesday due to a rainout on Friday. Even so, there's only one stretch that likely matters to Buchholz more -- the young right-hander hasn't won since May 2, against Tampa Bay. His lone start against Toronto resulted in his first loss of the season. On April 5, Buchholz went five innings and allowed four runs (three earned) in a 10-2 loss.

http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/players/action/ph_453329.jpg

Orioles: It's tough to predict how Waters will fare when he takes the mound. His first three Major League starts have been so different. The southpaw held the league-best Angels to one hit in eight shutout innings in his winning debut. Five days later, Texas scored four times in the first, but he still managed to get through four innings. In his most recent start, Waters shut out the Tigers through four, but couldn't make it out of the fifth.

Man, thank god we're all done with Toronto. That was such an ugly series. A rain out, and a Beckett dud. Ugh.

Game 1 - Tough pitchers duel.

Game 2 - Guarantee that Cabrera hits a batter.

Game 3 - I think Clay does a solid job, anyone else?

I agree that Clay does a solid job. He needs a weak offense like Baltimore's to get going, pitch a good game, and get his confidence up. Hopefully this game turns the rest of his season around.

I hope Boston sweeps. But realisticly, Baltiomore is a hot team right now. Mora,Markakis, Scott just to name a few are tearing the cover off the ball. Tonight Lester will have to hit his spot early if he wants to slow down Baltimore. As for the rest of the series, im predicting 2 out of 3 mainly becuase bucholz IMO is garbage. point blank!

Going back to the MDC sucks thing....I can't believe they still put him in serious roles. He has shown absolutely NO consistency this ENTIRE year. Time to call an extra arm (Smith?) up and see what if they can pitch in important roles down the stretch.

wow.............relax. he leads the league in stolen bases and is still very young. its not like hes batting .240

He's batting .264 and hitting leadoff with a .330 OBP. .240 isn't a stretch at this point. I love Jacoby as the next sox fan, but honestly watch his AB's he's always swinging at first pitches.

All I am saying is you guys need to ease up on Jacoby... the kid is 24 years old and should use his speed whenever gets a chance... would you really rather have coco and his .247 average playing?

i have to agree, jacoby lacks patience at the plate and needs to work the count. that's something boston, as a team, is known for. i like his speed too and an occasionally bunt for a base hit is nice...but he does need to work more on his hitting/OBP so we can utilize him even more as a base runner.
