Curious to see what people think right now. Who, on the Sox, do you consider our MVP and Cy Young as of right now, and who will it be at the end of the season?

Lester has been so solid for awhile now. And, although Dice K always seems to get in and out of jams. Then there's always that presence of Beckett on the mound... It's a toss up for me. And for our MVP, it'd be either Youk, or Pedroia, they've both been so consistent for us and stepped up when we needed the offense. So, meh.

it is very unlikely that the sox will have an MVP or cy young winner on the team this year. but if i had to pick youk would be the MVP and dice k would be the cy winner at the end of the season.

but, i dont think any one on the sox will win either.

I think he means like the teams personal MVP/Cy Young.

Seriously why post in a thread if you don't read the OP? He clearly says "Who, on the Sox, do you consider OUR MVP and Cy Young as of right now"?

MVP: Dustin Pedroia (He is the straw that stirs the drink. Leading the team in hitting, if you exclude Bay and Casey, who don't have as many at-bats.)

Cy Young: Jon Lester (Since the begining of May he has been their most consistent pitcher by far.)

.......

The question was simply asked, who has been our most valuable player and who has been our best pitcher.

Why this has to turn into a problem is beyond me.

It's the same guy everytime. ^^^

For me its coin toss on youk and pedy

Pitching the same at this point Dice or Lester or paps

How they finish the year will be the decider.

Towelie I'm getting pretty tired of this crap. Anyone who disagrees with you is a ****** and now people who start threads that you don't like are jerkoffs. Get your **** together or I'll give you some time to do it.

Hard to argue... at this point.

But without youk and pedy we would be in serious doo-doo too.

Youk's RBI total is lower without Pedroia getting on base for him, therefore he is not the drink.

Crucis

That's always going to be the case for big time RBI guys. They're dependant on the guys in front of them getting on base. That said, how often really do you seem table-setters win the MVP? MVP winners (not counting pitchers, in this case, of course) are guys who drive in the runs, not the guys who set the table for them.

Who cares about his RBI's, the guy has a .320/.577/.388 line with a 147 OPS+ (highest on the team), he would have the same exact line without Pedroia getting OB ahead of him.

Clearly it is Youkilis and Lester. Pedroia has been a stud the last 3 months but was very shaky the first couple months of the season. Youk has been great the entire season, not to mention his versatility on the field and in the lineup

pedroia/youk should be in the conversation for league mvp IMO, same with lester and dice k.

I dont see how cliff lee should win it because he is of little value to his team granted the Indians would be a lot worse without him but they still suck with him. Whereas the Red Sox wouldnt be close to the playoff race without lester/ matsuzaka. I know his stats are better but not by much.

But as far as the Sox MVPs

CY: Charlie Zink
MVP: Lugo

That argument makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. The CY is simply given to the best pitcher in the league. It is not the "most valuable pitcher" award; if it were then I might go with you on the value-to-the-team argument (which is why Ortiz should have beaten A-Rod a couple years ago).

Lee's got all the right numbers: #1 in wins, #1 in winning pct among starters, #1 in starter's era, #1 in starter's whip, top 10 in strikeouts, top 5 in IP, ... I really cannot see any valid argument against him when you consider where he ranks in these categories. I agree that they're not all good measures for a pitcher but they are the measures that most effect the voting.
