View Full Version : Is this the year McGrady gets past the 1st round?

This is probably T-Mac's strongest team he has ever played on. He has a dominant center in Yao, another good player in Ron Artest, and role players around him, Scola, Alston. etc. But also this year the West is going to be filled with great teams again. You have the Lakers, Hornets, Spurs, Suns, Clippers, Portland, Utah, Golden State, Dallas, and Denver. he Rockets will need their Big 3 to be on the field this season. So does McGrady finally get past the first round? I say yes.

It depends on matchups. I've thought it was T-Mac chance to do it a few years now but that wasnt the case. This is a talented and good defensive team. If they can gain good chemistry and play as a team then of course they have a a chance to not only get out of round one but to get the the WCF.

Utah? Please. I really wish that the Rockets face off with Utah during the playoffs this season.

I don't think you can be dissing Utah yet. Last time I checked they beat you in the playoffs two years in a row.

Although I agree that Houston will be better than Utah this season.

I think so...

I think with the Artest deal, the Rockets are dangerous. T-Mac and Artest can bomb 3's while Yao is gettin double teamed in the post.

Combine that with the defense of Yao, Artest, and Battier, that team could play some shut down D. Alston isn't bad either, along with some other good role players.

I was on a call with Artest the other day (seriously), and even though he is still ghetto and kinda dumb on topics besides basketball, he is a hell of a player. IMO it's the Lakers, Rockets, Hornets, Jazz, Mavericks, Suns, Nuggets, Warriors....in that order after the regular season. (although I'm a nuggets fan, they could just drop out of everything this season and be 10th-12th in the west)

So I'm callin Western Conference Finals, then out for the Rockets.

If he get's put out the first round again with all that talent his team has...then the Rockets should start thinking about trading T-Mac.

I hope they get out of the first round... even as a Laker fan, I'd like to see T-Mac do well...... personally, i think the Rockets will make the finals, even thought i hope they lose in the WCF to my Lakers... but who really knows... New Orleans, Phoenix, San Antonio, Dallas, Utah, and Portland round out a really really strong WC that is too tough to predict at all accurately. (maybe even put the Clippers and Warriors in there)

I honestly can't see the big 3 all start together in more then 30 games. They all seem to get injured for a long period of time in one season or another. We'll just have to see if they are going to stay healthy. If they do have all 3 for most of the season and the playoffs then i say yes, they are going past the 1nd round and probably to the championship. I'll be proud of T-Mac. :D

On paper you would have to think so. But with houston and Yao and Tmac, it comes down to health. Not that I really needed to state that since its pretty ****ing obvious health issues have plagued them. But I think they will.

LMFAO... That was pretty funny!

I seriously hope/think he can make it out of the first round this year. If the Rockets are healthy, they will be good. Artest just makes them a lot tougher, and no team should look forward to playing them.

If the Rockets don't make it out of the first round, then I hope T-Mac is traded to a better team. I just don't like Yao and I don't like the Rockets, cant root for them - especially if there's no Mac.

I love how in a team sport that Tmac is labeled a "choker"....have any of you ever viewed the matchups he has had? None of them the team he was on was actually a clear favorite, and most of the time he was an underdog. I think this is the year they get over the hump if everything goes well chemistry wise (Artest) and health wise (Yao)..Alston continues to improve, and I think they'll be a top 3 seed. The West is just so deep, though..that it is never a guarantee.

If they are healthy, then yes. But it is a long season, and you can tell Yao isn't even 80%, yet he is out there for China. That means another big injury for him in m opinion

I hope so for his sake.

I'm beginning to feel sorry for the guy.

If they don't get out this year then I really don't know.

The West is always tough though.

Maybe T-Mac needs to head back to the East probably has a better shot getting out of the 1st round in the East.

I think that if Yao stays healthy then yes....Rockets without Yao in the playoffs is an ugly thing.....that Jazz series would have been different if Yao and Alston would have been healthy....but the Jazz won....this year.....no excuses though....if everyone stays on the court this team should make it past the first round easily....with the additions of Artest and Barry this is a different team.....

I think he will make it past the first round this year. He has an absolute lockdown defender with him in Ron Artest. Artest is probably the most talented wing man McGrady's ever had on his team. They should be a great tandem.

If Jermaine O'neal returns to his 2004 self they have a slight chance. But then again that frontcourt is to thin to deal with the big boys.

I think so. T-Mac's best team ever, and finally has a good 3rd option, besides Yao. This team has championship potential, and IMO, will AT LEAST go to the second round, most likely farther in the postseason.

Yes, this is the best team he has ever had or ever will have. His numbers have been great in the playoffs, so he always needed the right teammates. Artest added to a 55 win team? Yes, we can and will.

The matchups don't really matter, when you're a quote "superstar" and paid the kind of money he is, success isn't measured in regular season wins. People don't look at Jordan and say, wow, he led his team to 72 wins, thats why hes the best ever. That's part of it, but the playoffs is where you show your metal and what you're worth. Regardless of matchup or whos the favorite. And as talented as Tmac is, he's failed time and time again in the playoffs.

I hope Yao take the first 2 weeks of the season off so he can rest up a little. He's need a break forreal.
