Out pattern: McCarthy said the players who were sidelined for practice Thursday — receiver Brett Swain (thigh bruise), Grant (hamstring), safety Charlie Peprah (hamstring), linebacker A.J. Hawk (chest), linebacker Desmond Bishop (Achilles’ tendon), tight end Tory Humphrey (Achilles’ tendon) and receiver Greg Jennings (knee) — would “most likely” not play against the 49ers.

Receiver Ruvell Martin, who suffered a slight concussion on a hard hit against the Bengals, practiced and would be a game-time decision.

Cornerback Al Harris appeared to still be bothered by a stiff back, so his status could also be in doubt.

McCarthy said most starters would play between 30 and 35 plays Saturday.

Let’s see Rodgers get into a nice rhythm again this week and get out of this game without any injuries. I hear Morency will get a good look this week. It should be interesting to see if we're going to use the 3-4 again at all.

I am interested to see how Brian Brohm plays in this game because in the 1st preseason game you could tell he was over excited. I also want to see Rogers play well again because he played well in the 1st preseason gm but I want to see him be consistent. Also on Offense I want to see Brandon Jackson run with the same power he ran with in spurts vs the Bengals but I want to see him run like that the whole time he is in.

For Defense I want to see if Nick Collins will be around the ball again like last week vs the Bengals or if Aaron Rouse will begin to take over the safety spot. Another thing for Defense is I want to see how we will do against a very good runningback in Frank Gore. This should be an interesting gm. I was wondering does anybody know if Woodson and Harris will start at the corners or will Blackman, and Tramon Williams start again. One more thing I want to see how Jarryd Bush and PAT Lee do because I reall liked what I saw from Pat Lee vs the Bengals.

Should be a decent game. The backup's should get more playing time in this game I'm guessing. I'd like to see the offense get on a role and start clicking well. I'm not sure if Grant is going to play or not but it would be nice to get a good mix of run and pass, instead of the last game where 80% of the plays were pass. I'm not expecting to much out of Brohm or Flynn, I still have in mind that they are just rookies and it will probably take them a little while even though Flynn did look good in the first game.

Players to watch:
Brandon Jackson - Looked a lot stronger and he really needs to improve in order to get some valued touches this year. He showed spirts last game.
Ruvell Martin vs. Jordy Nelson - This is an interesting battle. I kind of hope Jordy wins because I'm a bigger fan of the guy and think he'd be a very good slot receiver in the future but I'm almost positive that Martin will win it just based on his chemistry with Rodgers.
Offensive Line - They played very inconsistant. Only way to improve that is through games and practices. I'm hoping for a little more consistency.
DT - Someone needs to step up there. Pickett seems like a lone soldier in the middle. We don't know if Jolly will be with the team this year but he has looked alright. We need someone to step up if thats Harrell or Muir.
LB - I must say LB is getting very interesting. I'm not only talking about Poppinga vs. Chillar but Hodge vs. Bishop as well. I have no clue where this is going to end up. I've heard everything from keeping 7 LB's to cutting Chillar. I have to admit though Hodge looked very good.
CB - Either Tramon, Lee, or Blackmon needs to solidify themselves as being the 3rd CB. It looks like Tramon is in the lead but Lee from what I've heard isn't far behind him. One of these guys needs to step up.
Rouse vs. Collins - I'm really hoping for Rouse to win this job because I'm sick of Collins, but every player has a fair shot.

I really just want for A-Rod to play good again so he can prove he can play because I am tired of argueing with all these fans who say Rod is garbage and we are going down the drain with him.

It should be interesting to see how Brohm comes out and plays after talks of maybe Flynn taking over the backup role.. hopefully he'll impress us.

If you don't live in Wisconsin and have the game on TV then tommorow at noon on NFL Network they are showing the game again. If you happen to miss the gm it will be on NFL NEtwork tommorrow.

I think our D will be fine going against Frank Gore even if he is a very good running back. Thats because he is a very good RB running behind an iffy(at best) O-Line. I have always liked Pat Lee as well. He is both fast and physical and that is a great combination to have.

Umm isn't this week 2? Or did I miss a game somewhere?

I agree and we all should now that we arent going to throw our money plays at them so we can get filmed during preseason. Now people are saying Rod is garbage but last week it was a different tune.We know Favre did good but lets not start that stuff again about if Fvare was hear because its gonna start more arguments. This game will light a fire under us and we will see Grant and Jennings plus almost everyone else next week because of this game so im not worried

in all honestly guys, it's just the preseason.....and yea preseason does make a difference because it helps teams evaluate talent...but i really feel rodgers is gonna be fine and he has a young group of talented wideouts and a promising RB...and it's best that they all get in sync together now...even if you guys don't make the playoffs this year, atleast they have that experience of working together as a first team unit....you defense is pretty solid and will put the offense in positions to succeed(did i spell that right), but in any case, your team will be fine....you maynot return to the NFC championship game this year, but by no means is your team in a rebuilding phase...it may take a year or two for the pieces you have now to get back on track like like season, but you'll be fine

You guys act like the other players on Offense for the Niners didn't do anything. Look at what Josh Morgan did. Burnt your CB's all night. One More thing the only reason your Offense did SO BAD, is because the Niners Defense is THAT GOOD!!! Don't throw the Niners name around so loosely like there some chump team. The game today was painful to watch to say the least. They just didn't show up to play. With 2 days of practice I guess what do you expect but I did expect a little more. On some positives Jordy and Hodge looked pretty good. Also we better not go into the season with Jarrett Bush on this team.

08-17-2008, 04:19 AM
I'm just gonna defend A-rod a bit... How many perfect passes were dropped? How many times was he sacked? These are two things last season that we didn't say a lot of. You can say Arod was the reason, but when a guy is running at A-rod full speed and isnt touch, Im sorry but Im not going to blame him for the sack. GB's starting defense had this game under control. Then you add Jennings and Grant and Im pretty sure the game is 14 or 21-0 and you have a Packers victory at hand. Again its just preseason, if we had Brett right now he might have played one series, so even now we would have lost.

Rtardz
08-17-2008, 08:24 AM
yeah from what I saw the O-line did not give A-rod any time at all in the pocket to throw the ball I think the most he got was between 1.5 and 2 seconds and they were all in his face. It is his second game, the coaches are putting new plays together trying things out, not everyone is playing so give it a rest to the bashers. It is preseason, things will get ironed out some more I believe and we should see some improvements.

I'm not ducking the conversation but channelsurfing.net crashed and burned last night. That's how I was planning on watching the game. 20 minutes before kickoff..... BOOM! WTF! Yeah so I didn't get to see it. I did listen to the first half on Sirius but I'm going to save my comments until I can watch the replay on NFL Network. It comes on in an hour and forty five minutes. I will say that from what I was listening to that it didn't sound good.

You packer fans are pretty much a bunch of Cry Babies! J.T. O' Sullivan is doing this. Throwing two touchdowns against the Packers. They may have been in the past but with a championship caliber defense and a decent offense we could take the west! Sleep on that one Cheese Heads!

Trust me that I am a fan who hates the Packers but come on. The 49ers are horrendous and are nowhere close to GB's level. Glad you feel good about a preseason game.

So when does the Vinny Testeverde era begin?

It will be the Daunte Culpepper era, and I'm guessing about week 4 or 5... :speechless:

i think that if jarred bush makes it past the first round of cuts. i will have to reanalyze mm's judge of talent. come on this guy cannot cover anyone. he was crap last year, and is looking like he is even more crappy this year.

Just to make it clear of course i think the packers are the better team.It was pre-season + you guys were missing key players. But the pack as playoff contenders without favre remains to be seen which is what i was trying to suggest.

This team is in for a long season. Rodgers sucks. Yeah, I said it.

wow, good thing it is preseason. this reminds me of the pre favre era
:eyebrow:

Rodgers has let Rodgers get sacked three tiems...
Rodgers didn’t let Rodgers get sacked three times. What were you watching? Josh Sitton got punked on the first two sacks. The defender went right around him on the first and right through him with a bull rush on the second. Sitton made some rookie mistakes. The third sack as well as the forth he probably could have gotten the ball out a touch sooner but in his defense he didn't have all day to throw the ball. Receivers were covered and the pocket closed. He's learning. Practice can't teach game speed fellas. It's not going to be a pretty all the time.

Pretty disappointing to see the whining this bad after a preseason road game in which I think it was 7 or 9 of our 22 starters were NOT playing.

U have to expect it though, bcuz after last weeks game, there were some mindless worshippers and praisers to the extreme. I think both is wrong until the season starts.

So I just watched the first half. Sitton as I previously mentioned made some rookie mistakes, to be expected of course. I see a lot of disappointment directed towards Aaron. Some of it deserved but not all of it. Lee dropped a sure TD and earlier Driver had a ball slip off his fingers for a big gain. The four sacks Rodgers had weren’t his doing alone. He had help from Sitton. Aaron was excited about this game and it showed. Maybe hurting his performance a bit. I didn’t think it was as bad as it was made out to be in this thread for sure. Defensively Bush needs to go. He gave up two 1st down conversions on 3rd and long and missed the tackle afterwards resulting in even more yardage. Maybe he's doing something on special teams that I'm not seeing. I don't think he's going to make the team after that first half performance. The TD for the 49ers before the half was inexcusable. Poor communication on Collin's behalf. He totally bites on the short route while his man runs right on by him. Not the first time this has happened to Nick either. I'm over that mistake with him. None the less it's just preseason, a short week on top of that and we as well as the 49ers weren’t playing with everything we’ve got. I'm curious to see what decisions will be made concerning the offensive line in this weeks practice and upcoming game.

Ah forget about it. Keep your chin up when it comes to our Packers. We’re going to be good baring major injuries. It was mostly OnWisconsin2007 and his Rodgers comment that sort of pisses me off. I'm over it though.:)

We would be looking at G help not T. Luke hasn't even practiced this year.

It isn't set the same right now. We have Sitton (rookie) in playing RG and Spitz is on the LG. I believe Spitz was our LG last season for a couple of games. It's the guard play that has been a problem for a few years now. Wells is in the middle so that’s the same as well as our rocks Tauscher (49er got by him too for help on a sack) and Clifton on the ends. Yeah it's going to take a little time for Sitton to adjust. He's a rook, it's just that way. He must be showing the staff something in practice that allowed him to get the start last night. We'll just have to wait and see. I really don’t think we’re going to go out and bring in anyone to try and solidify the guard spot. I think the staff is OK with the options we have there now. TT said so himself.:o

WOW I just realized I made a major mistake with players numbers. Sitton wasn't the G getting punked it was Spitz. They moved Spitz over to play the LG and Sitton was over playing RG. Sorry Josh:o OK so Sitton didn’t play as bad as I was thinking, thank god, I guess. Still a problem for sure was Spitz's play at the LG. In his defense I don’t think he plays over there that often. At least not very often. Again sorry Josh.

Note to self, Sitton #71 Spitz #72

I almost feel like Colledge is a candidate to get cut.

OK so I watched the second half. Yuck:( That was rough. Bush made even more terrible plays. He's gone for sure now. I don't think he will make the team. Colledge almost got Flynn killed. He wasn’t looking so good out there. I'm not sure if anyone on that punt coverage team is even making the roster cut. A bunch of scrubs at that point in the game. The one positive I thought was Jordy’s returns.

He's way bigger and stronger than Welker. Jordy's going to be the **** if he can stay healthy. Welker was undrafted while Jordy was a Consensus All-American picked #36.

Depends on what team we are playing and whether we win or lose. But yes it does happen quite frequently.

As far as this preseason game was concerned, i will admit that we played pretty bad. I wouldn't be to worried about Aaron Rodgers at this point because he still needs more time to play in real game situations. He knows the offense and i think he will grow as the preseason and season progresses

And thats why I believe if we can start off good early on in the season we will be a great team because by about week 6 or 7 Rod will be 100 percent ready and will be in the NFC Championship at least.Did you guys see that hit put on by Patrick Lee?

Ehh, not so sure about that. I have faith in this team to have a good year because i think they will but getting back to the NFC Championship game is some lofty expectations. I would love for it to happen, i'm just not that sure that it will...and yeah i saw the Pat Lee hit
