They said this guy has been claimed off waviers. With Lowell out for maybe a month and Youkilis' ability to move over to 3rd base, could the Red Sox have claimed him to have him possibly play 1st? He has played a decent 1st base in the past.

This also adds more security in our lineup, he is batting .287 18 Hr 80 RBI.

Any thoughts

That would be a great pickup... Although, I think Casey is pretty serviceable until Lowell comes back.

Ibanez would be a great pickup for us, but there's no way that he got all the way to us, IMO. The Yankees may have chosen not to block the Byrd deal, but there's no way they would let us get Ibanez.

I don't think that it's the Sox that claimed him. It might be but I'm guessing no. More likely to be Sheffield.

I would like that move, but I don't think the Sox claimed him. The Mets probably grabbed him as soon as he was there. If not the Mets, then the Rays would definitely take him.

If you check the transcript from the Gammons chat yesterday on the Globe's website, he's suggesting that the Yankees are viewing the rest of 2008 like the Sox did in 2006: injuries and all took their toll so the Sox gave young guys like Pedroia a shot at playing while technically "in the hunt". They'd be wise to conserve player-resources since they don't really look like they're configured to survive the losses they've incurred.

I doubt we're grabbing him, and I don't really have an issue that we didn't.
