Dan Ariens, president and CEO of the Ariens Co., in Brillion, was elected Tuesday to the Green Bay Packers' Executive Committee.

The franchise's board of directors, a far larger board, elected Ariens during its quarterly meeting.

Ariens has been a member of the board of directors since 2005, He replaces Bob Gallagher on the Executive Committee. Gallagher reached 70, the mandatory retirement age under team bylaws.

Ariens is the chair of the team's marketing committee. "We're delighted to bring Dan Ariens onto the Executive Committee," said Mark Murphy, the team's president and ceo. "Dan has served the organization well on the board and as the chair of the marketing committee. He has a very successful background in business and also has served in a variety of roles in the community. We look forward to his continued contributions to the success of the Packers.

The seven-member Executive Committee is the most important board in the organization. Most important in the wake of the tussle between former Packers quarterback Brett Favre and the franchise is the fact that the committee monitors the performance of management, including Murphy and General Manager Ted Thompson.

Over the course of the Favre soap opera, the committee expressed strong support for both Murphy and Thompson.

Ariens, who is 49, has been president of the Ariens Co., since 1998. The Ariens Co., is a manufacturer of outdoor power equipment.
