View Full Version : King James shining bright for Team USA

Lebron James has created a new fan out of me, I have always admired his talent, but I did not know how much of a leader he was until I started watching him this year and that leadership has carried onto the US Olympic team. Whether it's sprinting down full-court to block a layup on the opposing team or making the correct pass, Lebron has been the CATALYST for Team USA. His commitment on the defensive end has impressed me the most and I think that has a direct correlation with setting the tempo for team USA. If the US team wins the gold, look for James to get the MVP, but not because of scoring (Wade has been the most prolific scorer), but it's been his leadership and overall performance that has been the most impressive. The young man refuses to take plays off and concede easy layups.

I completely agree. As a Heat fan, I can't express how glad I am to see Wade play at the level he's playing at right now. I've been super impressed w/ Wade's fg% and Lebron's outstanding play all across the board. The 2 brightest spots on the team IMO. Go team USA!

As you watch him more and more you notice what you have mentioned. I wish more fans could watch him I live in Cleveland so I watch him every season and every game.

When he has that intensity I really think he has the most ability in the league.

Yeah, Wade is back. It will make it more bearable to watch 50 Heat games on TV. God, last year sucked, they were on 3 times a week, and the last 30 games were playing D leaguers. Thank god he is back, and I am not a Miami fan, but I like good players.

Can anyone name me one player in history with the talent that LeBron has for being 6'9", 260 lbs??? Don't say Magic or Bird, because when LeBron gets a head of steam, you move, period, or you end up on some kids wall on a poster. He is the strongest wing player in history, no doubt. He is only 23 too. Think what he will be when he adds a consistent jumper. He is already the best player in the NBA, and he is 23. That is ridic.

He's doing what he's suppose to do. Anyone of our guys could be droppin 30+ against these wack teams, but he's playing unselfish along with kb24 and the rest of the bunch. USA is playing great team ball, but could be playing a lot better and need to work on some things.

He is definitely the most physically talented athlete at his size that the game has ever seen.

But I wouldn't call him the best player in the NBA quite yet. Even if you want to call him offensive equals (I still give Kobe the nod), Kobe is superior on defense and in the clutch.

- defense is 50% of basketball, and his D is not really close to Kobe's level.

- clutch game we're not gonna even go there. Just type "Kobe Bryant clutch" in Youtube, sit back, and enjoy..

I think he is better than Kobe. But everyone has their own opinion. LeBron takes 12 drunken sailore to the playoffs. Kobe has tons of help. If LeBron were on the Lakers, and Kobe not, in my opinion, they would be wearing the ring. Again, just my opinion, I don't need to be crapped on by Laker fans here.

I loved how JVG pointed out in the finals, how overrated Kobe was as a defender. Him making the first team all defense is a disgrace to Battier, Artest, Bell, and a couple others. Please. He is a a competent defender at best. And in the Olympics, he is focusing soley on that, so no need to point that out to me. If LeBron or Wade had said, hey, I want the best player, then everyone would be raving about their D

Right, clutch isn't scoring the last 25 points on the Pistons in a Eastern conference finals game. And has anyone seen the help defense LeBron is doing when the guards get in the lane here? He grabbed a shot out of the air for a block against China. There are 10 years of Kobe videos, 4 of LeBrons, so yes, Kobe has had more moments. Lets check back in about 7 years.

#1. Lebron is in the east, a much weaker conference.

#2. Kobe took the lakers to the playoffs twice, one almost beating the suns with the starting PG SMUSH PARKER...( where is he now?) and starting C KWAME BROWN ( who is known one of the current worst players in the NBA )

and Lamar Odom. Sorry, Kobe has had help basically his whole career. Not chamionship help every year, but a top player. LeBron has never had anyone. If Z or Hughes is a top player, then fine. The Western Conference >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>The Eastern Conference.

Lebron with this Cavs team wouldn't even make the playoffs in the west. Kobe took 10 drunken sailors, one D-league player (Smush Parker), and the biggest #1 draft pick bust in NBA history (Kwame Brown) to the playoffs twice in two of the toughest conferences of all time. Don't forget that he took one of the youngest teams in the NBA to the finals this year. Don't let two olympic games against horrible teams cloud your judgment too much now. Don't forget that when Kobe was Lebron's age, he had three rings already. To compare Kobe to Lebron is just sheer ignorance.

In 04-05 Odom averaged 15.2 Pts a game
In 05-06 Odom averaged 14.8 Pts a game

Those were the two years they got bounced in the 1st round by the suns.

Big Z has a career average of 14.5 Pts a game

In the two years hughes spent as a Cavalier, in 04-05 he averaged 15.5 Pts a game and in 05-06 14.9 pts a game, now you add those two together you have your self 30 pts a night....a lot better then just lamar odom in which kobe only really had.....don't say lebron didn't any help

Cream rises to the top.

With these superstars playing many games together Lebron & Wade are getting eposure & kobe getting exposed.
kobe is taking many more shots while shooting a team low 37% & 1/15 3pt.s.

And I really haven't seen kobe's defense as good as Lebron & Wade's.
Lebron's block's have been awesome & Wade always was a shot blocker.

What's nice is I don't see anyone getting protected or star treatment like in the NBA, so we get to see real BB and real defenses.

when Lebron and wade are on the court together this team is unreal. I think the best lineup for this team is Paul/Wade/Kobe/Lebron/Bosh (the second team they use every game). Every game we start off slow with kidd, howard, melo in the game...then comes wade, bosh, and paul and we step it up. Kidd has been invisible out there, Melo has seemed uninterested, Howard has been exposed, and Kobe is forcing it to much (when you miss 5 three pointers in a game and the rest of your team is playing well you dont just keep jacking up shots IMO...It just doesnt make sense for a guy shooting 37% right now to be shooting way more then guys that are shooting 70-80%)...

Its always the Kobe haters who bring him up first. Just look at the beginning of this thread as an example. The Laker fans always end up having to defend him as a result of all of these unprovoked and ignorant attacks. I guess thats the price you have to pay when you're the best. :)

Kobe is team USA's secret weapon. He is just taking a temporary back seat while they dispose of all the easy teams. When they play Greece and Spain, then you will see him step it up. Kobe is older than most of the players and is therefore reserving himself for more important things such as his next championship run with the Lakers. He can't be unnecessarily expending himself and risking injury when the situation clearly does not warrant Kobe to play even remotely close to his best. Since Lebron and Wade are younger and won't even have a legit shot at a championship for the next few years, let them take care of the dirty work while we save Kobe for when really we need him............crunch time against the top international teams and his next 10 seasons with the Lakers. :)

I want no part of the Kobe vs Bron debate but the reality is defense isnt 50% of the game. Would you rather have a player who played nothing but Defense and no Offense (Bruce Bowen) or a guy who plays nothing but Offense with ZERO defense (Tmac last year)?

There is a reason why good offense always beats good defense, offense will always be a bigger part of the game.

So much debate over 2 games...

Kobe's shooting has been off lately... shooters go through cold streaks. Kobe still has been able to penetrate and get dunks when he wants... but he tries to be the "zone buster" and is taking a lot of threes, and not making them.

Lebron and Wade are the recipients of easier looks... they play inside more and get back on defense a lot slower than Kobe does.

Kobe hovers around midcourt a LOT of the time to get back on defense.. he's there to stop any kind of break the other team might be going for.

Lebron has been playing amazing, but his looks are a lot better than Kobe's are. He able to go on the offensive a lot more freely than Kobe simply because Kobe is there to stop the break if he misses. The same can't be said for Kobe if he drives and misses.

You must not have seen many games or read up on many books. How often do you hear it, great offense always beats great defense, raise your hand if youve never heard a legendary broadcaster ever repeat these words, theyve been around for ages.

Defense creates offense except when the opposing teams offense isnt allowing your defense to stop them, didnt you know that?

On a team scale you need a balance of both, you prefer a balance from an individual player but if you had to choose between an offensive specialist (Tmac) or a defensive specialist (Bowen) you would be stupid not to take Tmac.

And also look up all the champions in NBA history you'll find that there is pretty even distinction between the best offensive teams or defensive teams and their correlation to winning titles.

Well said, Kobe isnt really needed right now, Wade and Bron are thriving in transition but when they play the good teams and rely on halfcourt scoring thats when Kobes true importance will be felt.

Kobe is playing off of his teammates and making them better, that said he could do alot better and Wade+Bron have been the best thus far. I just dont buy the whole, lets give the 70% more looks, basketball doesnt work that way.

Stop trying to make Kobe out to be a God or the savior of Team USA. Other countries send their best every year...we didn't send our best and we lost to a Greek team that played great defense and within the team concept. Even if Kobe never signed up we'd be the favorites. I welcome his defensive intensity and work ethic, but D Wade and LeBron were going to shine regardless. Antawn is an undersized tweener, Battier is a 1 dimensional player, Howard had even less of an offensive game than he has now (and he still has none) and Paul was a young point guard who couldn't handle the physical rigors of international play. You're just name dropping but you have no idea how those games played out. I bet you didn't even watch the games.

Please read the other posts before you reply. I said how impressed i am with lebrons play along with everyone else on team USA. I am a fan of bball... not a fan of individual players as much. I did watch those games.... but they were 2 years ago and my memory is a little hazy. Dont make excuses for those players though. They were good then! There good now! True there were many semidecent NBA players on that fiba team. But all of which are known for something whether that be defense or offense or just having a mind for the game.... Argue as much as you want. Facts are facts and this team is better then 06. ALL the players are. But in 06 the players were still tallented and capable enough to win gold.

So many kobe appologists.
Sorry but kobe is being exposed, playing 5 exhibitions and 2 Olympic games.
In both he shot the lowest fg% and Lebron & Wade look awesome.
It appears without NBA protection kobe is not as good.

Kobe is not the one who broke the NBA finals record for free throw attempts. That was Wade.

Its so amusing to me how all you Kobe haters just sit around a wait for any sort of mouse fart to fuel your ignorant propaganda. Any sort of slip up, no matter how inconsequential, and you haters are all over him like a cheap suit in a vain attempt to de-thrown him as the greatest player in the NBA. The fact that you haters feel the need to do this just justifies the fact that he is the best.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

BTW, let me remind you that it was Lebron and Wade who were the catalysts of the 04 (Olympics) and 06 (FIBA World Championship) teams who the first and only teams to bring home the bronze. Hence the name "Lebronze James".

You guessed incorrectly. I said Lebron has stepped his game up and has been a lot of fun to watch. That is a great complement to pay to a player (Who i used to dislike) . Now why do you have to be such a hater... i havnt even mentioned kobe. Team USA not team Lebron would still win gold without kobe. He is not playing his best ball. But he still contributes on and off the court. Recognize when your American born brothers are doin well to. No matter there name my friend. :)

Did you forget Lamar Odom and Phil Jackson??? Oh, and if LeBron came into the league with Shaquille O'Neal in his prime, I think he may have a few rings there. My judgement is not clouded. Kobe is a special player, but he has no right on a defensive anything team, and if you Laker fans can remember 13 months ago, was DEMANDING a trade, and called Bynum expendable. Sorry, if I had to start a team today, I would be a moron not to take LeBron #1

why no ring? cause he was drafted by a bad team, a team he brought to the finals by himself. You dispelled your point by saying Kobe was drafted to a good team. Experts are in love with winning, therefore, Wade was the best 2 years ago, and Kobe is the best now. Done with this, my opinion is LeBron is better. Hold onto your so called expert opinions, cause LeBron takes over this year. Shoot, even Wade is back.

Just know that your opinion is shared by only a very small minority. The people who believe the contrary are the ones who's opinions actually matter. When Lebron actually takes over .........then we can continue this conversation. Until then............stop embarrassing yourself. :pity:

thats great... you gave us a bunch of quotes from YEARS ago... brilliant... the links dont even function anymore... thats just great. real impreessive

What about the fact that Lebron even admits that Kobe is better. He said that about a month ago............is that recent enough for you. Your own idol even disagrees with you. shouldn't that be enough to convince you?

Without Shaquille O'Neal

O-Be Bryant wouldn't win an NBA Championship in Los Angeles because this guy always suck in the NBA Finals.

Check Kobe Bryant stats in the 2000, 2001, and 2002 NBA FInals, and compare it to the stats of Shaquille O'Neal.

Is the opinion of a guy with the screen name Lebron23 really valid?

Again, would of, should of, could of. Lets not play the what if game.......the fact is that at age 23, Kobe had 3 rings and Lebron has 0 to go along with his 0/4 finals record. :D

Kobe has scored 81 points in a single game and 62 in three quarters. "Lebronze" has yet to break 60 in four quarters; let alone in O/T.

You can make an argument about 2000, but Kobe and Shaq both were basically equal scoring contributers in 2001 and 2002. Kobe was the better defensive player and clutch player on top of that.

What about the offense on him?

Is that not freaky?

Why don't you go back in this thread and look to see who actually started this whole thing. It was the Kobe haters. Is it not just a freaky that there are so many on here waiting to slander Kobe at the turn of every mouse fart?

Who cares about Kobe Bryant? I wish he retire in the NBA, so that his fanboys will STFU.

yes there are a lot of haters... but its the chicken and the egg arguement. Did the kobe man love make people hate him or did people hating him create the kobe man love? you see the problem...

Today's generation???

Jordan and Pippen were yesterdays generation. But thats besides the point.

Name me one player that won a championship on his own with out a great supporting cast or wing man.

Why do you think Russell won 11 championships yet Wilt (the much better individual talent) only won 2.

That is the story with every generation...........not just the current one.

I defy you to name me one all-star player that won a championship with a crap supporting cast. Guess what, you can't because there aren't any.

That would be the only way Lebron could be better than him..........if he retired.

This is the one time I actually agree with you. The only way Lebron could be better than Kobe is by default. :)
