Ranking the West - Hoops World

There have been some changes made in the Western Conference this summer, and there will likely be some more before it's all said done. Here's a look at the way the conference shapes up today with the rosters as currently constituted.

1. Los Angeles Lakers
2. San Antonio Spurs
3. New Orleans Hornets
4. Utah Jazz

5. Houston Rockets - Stop me if you've heard this one before: if Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming stay healthy, the Rockets could make some noise in 2008-09. Unfortunately, it just never seems to materialize. As it stands now, the Rockets are a playoff team but probably not a true contender. Anyone else think Houston should strongly consider moving McGrady to Detroit for Chauncey Billups and Tayshaun Prince?

6. Dallas Mavericks
7. Phoenix Suns
8. Denver Nuggets
9. Portland Trail Blazers
10. Los Angeles Clippers
11. Golden State Warriors
12. Sacramento Kings
13. Memphis Grizzlies
14. Minnesota Timberwolves
15. Oklahoma City TBA's

We were 2 games away from the first seed last season with Yao out for 32 games and rookies playing an integral part of the team. With Yao back and Artest and Barry added, how is this team 5th? And how does that blurb not mention Artest's addition at all? Was that made before the Artest trade was announced?

it says last updated 7/27, but he must have written the Houston section before the trade. there's no way any writer says Houston isn't a serious contender now.

everyones hatin on houston always putting em down because of injuries they think we were a 8th seed last year actin like we suck. 55 games won and yao was out with a new system which took us time to learn the first part of the season. now they know the offense and if everyones healthy i see no team beating us.
