Why?

Ortiz has struggled a bit lately, and Drew seems to be doing alright in the leadoff spot.

If anything, Move Jacoby back to leadoff & get drew back to 5th or 6th.

1. Ellsbury
2. Pedroia
3. Ortiz
4. Lowell
5. Drew
6. Bay
7. Youkilis
8. Lowrie
9. Varitek

That's how I think it should be (assuming Ellsbury is finally out of his slump).

I disagree. I like Ellsbury but I think now he's better in the 9 spot.
1. Peddy
2. Drew
3. Youk
4. Papi
5. Lowell
6. Bay
7. Tek
8. Lowrie
9. Ellsbury

Leaves a little less pressure on Ellsbury and gives Pedroia all the at bats he can get which is a plus.

Ortiz likes the #3 slot. It's his as long as he wants it. There is really no reason to debate it.

Besides, the #3 slot is typically the spot for big RBI guys. Drew is an OBP guy because he walks all the time (13BB, 7H in Aug!). We need a guy in that slot who is going to take some cuts, not just work the count. Drew is not a great pick there.

And the notion of putting Drew and Ortiz, LHB back to back, together is bad for late game matchups.

Well said.
