Toronto Raptors point guard Jose Calderon scored 13 points to help lead Spain to an 81-66 win over Greece in its Group B opener Sunday.

Rudy Fernandez of the Portland Trail Blazers poured in a game-high 16 points, while Los Angeles Lakers centre Pau Gasol added 11.

The game was a rematch of the 2006 world championship final, which Spain won 70-47. The teams remained close, but Spain opened the game in the third quarter to take a comfortable 62-46 lead.

Calderon, who signed a lucrative multi-year deal with the Raptors in July, shot 63 per cent from the field.
