Nugs will win 48

By Aaron J. Lopez

Put me down for a 48.
Normally, that would be my score on the front 9 at the local muni, but right now I'm talking Nuggets basketball.
After scanning the 2008-09 schedule, I've come up with 48 wins for a Nuggets team that won 50 last season but lost starting center Marcus Camby in a cost-cutting move this summer.
Most of you are probably thinking I've had a few too many shots of Hornitos the blue-and-gold Kool-Aid, but the Nuggets remain loaded with talent.
A starting lineup of Carmelo Anthony at small forward, Kenyon Martin at power forward, Nene at center, Allen Iverson at shooting guard and Chucky Atkins at the point looks pretty good on paper. Assuming free-agent guard J.R. Smith returns as expected, the Nuggets' bench will be an interesting energy group of Smith, point guard Anthony Carter and forwards Chris Andersen and Linas Kleiza...rockymountainnews (http://blogs.rockymountainnews.com/nuggets/archives/2008/08/nugs_will_win_4.html)

i say put JR at the starting sg if we dont sign a new pg. then put AI at the point.

PG: AI/Atkins/AC
SG: JR/Weems
SF: Melo/Kleiza
PF: K-Mart/Balkman
C: Nene/Birdman/Hunter

then we would win just under 50.

well see how this team does with that lineup i also believe they have the best shot. They are definately a mystery team this year they do really well or really poorly. This is all dependent on their D stance and how Karl coaches the team this year. I honestly think they will do better than 48.

To me this article doesn't mean anything. 40, 50, 45, 65 wins it doesn't matter. We need to worry about getting playoff wins.

Yeah 48 wins might be a 9th or 10th spot out of the playoffs..

The reason that I think it's meaningful is that one of the major Denver sports columnists is basically coming out and saying getting rid of Camby is only going to cost us 2 regular season wins. He's pretty much saying we didn't get any worse because of it, once you factor in Nene and Chucky. I think that's a significant point of view, especially inasmuch as it contradicts the popular fan reaction to the Camby trade that ohhhhh, now it's all over for the Nuggets' 2008-09 season.

i think they will win more than 48. although i loved camby.. his loss wont hurt that much. He was a soft one on one defender and an offensive liability with those slow mo jumpers of his. The bench is stronger this year.. if we can pick up a real PG i would say we can win 52-55. Also, I agree 48 probably doesnt even get you into the playoffs.
