Don't be shocked to see Guillermo makle the Tigers staff as an SP next spring.

The hottest Tigers prospect -- in case anyone hasn't noticed, is Lakeland Tiger first baseman Ryan Strieby. Ryan has been ON FIRE since the beginning of July. In the month, he hit .312 with 13 home runs, 3 triples, 33 RBI and a whooping 1.132 OPS in 28 games. Since the beginning of August, he's actually picked it up even more hitting .400, with 5 home runs, 12 RBI, 3 doubles and a triple in 8 games. This isn't a case of an older player beating up on younger competition, Strieby will turn 23 on Saturday.

For the season, Strieby has 28 home runs. I believe the Florida State League record for home runs in a season is 33. Former Cub prospect Brian Dopirak has 27 home runs. Strieby has 23 games to break the record.

Thanks to mlb.com poster hikoyosh for this fine Strieby writeup.

How is he defensively?

strieby could be the future DH of the team after sheff retires and such... him and Larish could platoon at DH.. would give a lefty righty combo. Strieby isn't that great at 1B defensively. Also, Larish has been getting some work in at 3B, maybe he becomes a DH next year, and then when Guillen's contract is up Larish moves to 3rd...

You know that he is just in Double-A right? He's going to have to prove himself there and in AAA before getting to the bigs. He's k'ing people like crazy because he's had a lot of experience in the minor leagues and isn't facing the best competition yet.

AAA really doesn't mean anything.. AAA is almost a pool of players that may not ever make it, it is where a lot of depth comes from.. not necessarily great talent, but can step up if necessary.. Watch the AAA all-star game sometime, it is filled with a lot of late 20 year old guys, that were never good enough to make it in the bigs.. perfect example being Mike Hessmen. The reason he is so old is because he had Tommy John Surgery two years ago.. and say what you will about him not facing the best comp. yet, but the fact is that his strikeouts aren't going down with each level he reaches.. oh yea, he also threw a perfect game last year.. he can't be any worse than Nate or Kenny at this point

The scouting report i read on Larish says he does have a decent arm for being a first basemen.. he grew up in high school as a 3B.. and at AU he was a 3B a bit, i am not sure how much though, i think it was just limited time.. he didn't look bad in the one game he played at 3rd this year with the big club.. i think one scooted by him, but it was hit pretty hard, and i think it hugged the line

thanks bondo. I think J-Lar's tools would be fitting for a third baseman. Nice size, big power, decent glove, decent arm.

Where did Justin Verlander pitch before '06 for the vast majority of that season :)?

Moscoso will be a stud.

Weird thing is, i've never seen any pics of him at all. Does anyone have any? I wanna see what this kid looks like. Isn't he like 6-1, 200 lbs or something like that?

Pics of G-Mos would be appreciated.
