Will the Houston Rockets Still be Under the Luxury Tax Threshold once the Artest trade goes thru and if Deke is signed?

Here is a synopsis now of the team's salary.

With Novak being traded the Payroll for Houston goes down to just under 69 million.

This was Artes salary
Ron Artest $7,400,000

Jackson and Greene total is about $7,800,000

I think that is a reason why the Novak trade was made, to try and get under the luxury tax. I am not sure though.

By the way, what is the amount for the luxury tax this year?

$71.15 million

Then I would say that we either sign Mutumbo and stay under the tax or try to get both Landry and Mutumbo, which would mean going over the tax, I think.

I hope that, if we have to go over the tax and pay, Les does not mind and says a few million dollars to sacrifice for a Championship is nothing. :D

What is the new cap going to be?

Either way, Landry can be resigned using the MLE along with Deke and it not count against the cap.

You are already over the cap so it doesn't matter, but once you pass the 71.15 million threshold you pay 1 per day for every thing you are over. So if the total salary of the team is 75.15 million then you pay 4 million plus another 4 which makes 8 million dollars.

I think we actually shaved off about 400,000 in the Artest deal. So in the 2 deals made we got rid of an extra 1+ million dollars. That guy "Morey" make smart moves

Ah, I took the post to mean that the soft cap was 71 mil, my mistake, I should've known that.

I'm not sure, but I doubt we are going to be able to sign Landry, Dorsey and Deke and stay beneath the Luxury threshold. Unless they find takers for Head and Hayes, which still should only clear up about 3.7 mil, and we work a similar trade to the Novak/Camby deal where we take no salary back, (hopefully for draft picks). But if we are able to do that, and our current total salary (I've looked it up on a few sites and none of them agree as to what our total is, but all are about 70 mil) is around 70, then moving Hayes/Head, plus the amount we are under Luxury tax, 1.15 mil, should get us enough room to use close to our whole MLE to sign them. I'm not sure though if that is going to be enough money to sign all three.
Landry is an idiot and wants more, Deke is old and wants more, Dorsey looks like he will get the same sort of treatment that Landry got last year as low man on the totem pole. It's possible, but the guys left to sign are going to have to be somewhat flexible on what they receive.

If we get 4.85 under the LT after moving Head/Hayes we could:

2.5 to Landry
1.5 to Deke
750k to Dorsey
----
4.75

Depending on what the actual salary is, we could tweak Landry and Deke's numbers, being that last season Deke made like 770k and Landry made 427k paying 4 mil between the two of them should be very fair. Scale for Dorsey is around 700k+.
