View Full Version : Best 2nd string in the NBA?

rico

I was wondering what team everyone thinks has the best bench/2nd string in the NBA..

NOT TO SOUND LIKE A HOMER... But i think its Chicago.

pg: Hinrich (Rose, could be argued)
sg: Gordon (Thabo could be argued)
sf: Nocioni
pf: Tyrus (Gooden could be argued)
c: Gray

i guess thats a perk of not having a star/goto guy on a team full of roleplayers :P

I don't know if it's the best in the league, but that's a solid bench no doubt.

Detroit, LA, Portland. Can't decide between the three.

i was knocking my head tryin to think of a better lineup than that besides starters. any suggestions that might rival that?

Firstly Chicago needs to sign Gordon before that becomes reality. If he does sign with Chicago, which I am starting to doubt, then yeah that is really good bench.

Also best bench Team USA 2008...

PG: Chris Paul
SG: Dwyane Wade
SF: Tayshaun Prince
PF: Carlos Boozer
C: Chris Bosh

GO USA!!!

I'm not saying it's not the best bench, I'm just saying that with all the player movement that's happened, I really haven't examined every bench in the league, so I honestly just don't have a solid opinion to say yes Chicago's is the best or no, it's not.

No, really - I don't. And I won't.

if the Suns pick Jason Williams up, which is looking like a possibility, they would look like this.

It Used to be toronto with Calderon,Kapono,Delfino,Barganini ,Rasho and garbajosa but claderon and Barganini will be starters this season and the others flew away.

In fact now they ahve a very slim bench,

Wich will hurt them in the long term-

Oefarmy2005

I would have to say Bulls, although their starters are not a whole lot better than their bench. Otherwise, it's got to be Portland - I am a Wolves fan, but what the Blazers have done over the last couple of years is just sick - in a good way.

LA has a solid bench, but lacks big men, until they can solve that problem, they no longer IMO will be considered to have the best bench. Until then I'll go with Detroit. Rodney Stuckey is going to be VERY good, for years, and years to come.

If Battier gets moved to the bench, Houston will also have a damn good bench as well.

The best would probably be the Lakers with Vujacic, Farmar, and others coming off the bench.

All solid contributors. We have numerous quality 2nd and 3rd string players. CLIPPERS are substantially deeper than they were before, possibly as deep as they've ever been. I've said it before, I'll say it again, watch out for them next season.

HAHAHA, I love that sig^^^^^, freaking hilarious.

This thread is one of the biggest homer-fests I have ever witnessed. In that light I will go with the Pistons just because of how much potential we have on the bench.
Stuckey (could become a consistant all-star player)
Maxiell (will become a very solid starter)
Amir Johnson (Very good at running the floor and playing D)
Afflalo (Curry said was one of the best players in this years summer league)
Walter Sharpe (Could be last drafts diamond in the rough)
Kwame Brown (Solid defender/ rebounder. Good role player)
Hermann (Big, quick, athletic, with some range)

Looks pretty damn good to me.

Id say honestly top 5 in this order:

1) Pistons: Stuckey Maxiell and Dysse is more than enough
2) Bulls: not quite sure who's still on the bench but im thinkin gordon, hinrich, gooden, hughes?
3) Lakers: This bench looked kind of weak during the playoffs.
4) Phoenix: 3 potential starters on bench.
5) Sixers: Greatly improved. Lou Williams, Willie Green, Reggie Evans, Marreese Speights, Kareem Rush.

You can take Jason Smith out of that equation now. His ACL surgery will keep him out for the entire season. Once Brands Achilles pops again Sixers will be looking at a world of hurt.

2 of those guys have zero experience in the NBA, and one (Frye) has only 3, marred by declining performance in the 2 seasons after his rookie year.

You may be able to make a case for this bench later in the season after they've proven something (if they in fact do prove something), but currently, that 5-man 2nd string is standing on only two legs, really -- and Przybilla ain't exactly a sturdy leg himself. So for now, I'll give you Outlaw, and as for the rest of them say, "Let's wait and see..."

Actually, as a Nuggets fan I can tell you it's my opinion that both Bobby Jones and Yakhouba Diawara (and calling him "Khouba" or "Kuba" or "Yak" will help you greatly in the future) are both underrated defensive-minded role players who, given the opportunity to make a contribution, could turn out to be real assets for you.

I still believe Kuba has the potential to be one of the league's better defenders, and I'm talking top 10 or top 5. Trouble is, he has no game offensively, so when he's on the court, you're basically playing 4 on 5 on offense. But used properly (as George Karl didn't know how to do), he can be very effective.

I am dissapointed with the lack of talk of portlands bench. Although then again they dont call them bench players in portland instead its the white squad sense they bench is so deep and strong.
assuming they use the same starters as last year with exception of oden at center then their bench is....

Jerryd bayless (best player in summer league)
Rudy fernandez (Best player in europe)
Travis outlaw (could become the 6th man of the year if he doesnt start)
Joel Prizbella (defense monster who is used to being a starter)
Channing Frye
sergio (one of the best passers in the nba, too bad he cant shoot)
Ike diogu
raef lafrentz

the first 3 guys who come off the bench should be starters... hmm that means a superb bench
