Wade has REALLY impressed me.
I'm so glad he's finally coming to form.
Best of luck to him during the NBA season

Kobe....he plays offense and guards the opposing team's best wing player. Does it on both sides of the court.

You cannot tell me wade has played better defense than Kobe, just cause its not in the stats doesnt mean it doesnt matter. Kobe has played the best defense by far to go along with his offense.

Kobe does all the dirty work. Offense And Defense! No cherry picking fast breaks. Doesn't really matter though, what a great team!

haha... Kobe looks like he is still on the lakers. everytime he touches the ball he shoots a fadeaway or three and NEVER passes. I have loved Kobe's play on defense...but he has looked very bad on offense. Wade and Lebron have been by far the best so far...

...and while KObe is shooting in the 40's from the field lebron and wade are up over 75% each...

Is that why Australian guards kept running past him?

So far, Wade IMO.

Kobe has played decent defense. J.R Holden blew past him numerous times, he did a good job on Sarunas, but his defense has been overrated for the most part. All he is doing is ball pressuring like every other guard on Team USA. I didn't include Melo because he hasn't been one of the top players to me so far. Neither has Chris Paul. The four I listed have been the best, day in and day out. Kobe played the best D, LeBron has just been nice period, D Wade best offense, Williams assist leader and defensive hound. Melo has been average at best thus far.

Obviously you haven't watched every game. Dwyane has broken down EVERY defender he has faced in the half court as well. The last two games we haven't even been on the break as much. And guess what? Dwyane still leads all players in ppg. I guess its just a coincidence that every time he checks in, we go on a run.

And it's a limited, three-point happy, offensive outfit in the half court. The team continues to make decisions that were depressing not as an American watching his country being represented overseas, but as a basketball fan in general. A long fadeaway jumper is the easiest shot in the world (and we mean that, "in the world," at this stage) to get, and there's a reason why you're usually open when you take it. Because guys like Carmelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James can make one out of every three, though, they think the next one is going in. And that kills an offense.

But that's enough of the dour take. Team USA still kept the Aussies at bay for most of the contest, even when it was a two or three-possession difference, and it still can rout the rest of the world even playing like the Denver Nuggets (going for steals, running, scoring with either dunks or bombs).

The Australian team played a tremendous game, a few pointless fouls put them behind the eight ball every so often, but it was a spirited run without all-purpose big man Andrew Bogut in the middle. Chris Anstey worked a solid offensive game, while the US had no answer for waterbug guard Patrick Mills at times.

During the BDL Live Blog, one reader warned us against hyping Mills up too much, noting that Carlos Arroyo also had his way with the Team USA defense during the 2004 Olympics. Fair point, but Mills is going to turn 20 next week, and Arroyo was a 25 year-old pro in 2004. And Mills did his damage against Chris Paul at times, a far better perimeter defender than anything the 2004 team had to offer.

On the other side of the ball, Team USA seemed to be at its best in the half-court when Dwyane Wade was working the isolation game on the left elbow-extended. If Coach K can field the right group to provide the right spacing (hint: no 35 year-old point guards), then this could be a very viable option even in an international game that seems to swallow up one-on-one play. USA's options are that good.

I have to vote Lebron on this one, he has the best all around game. Kobe is the best scorer on the team, Wade is the most fearless on the team and gives everything he has, but talent wise LeBron is still King as they say in Cleveland. All around basketball player LeBron gets my vote.

Definately Wade so far. I definately agree with a lot of people on here Melo should be up there over James and Williams i would have put as the 4 Wade, Melo, D-Wil, Kobe.

Melo's defense has been atrocious...

Holden blew by Kobe twice I saw..Thats going to happen.. These Players are all great they are going to score points

I think too many people think playing "great defense" is to never allow your man to score or something. Thats just not realistic. Sometimes you can play good D and dudes will still score. Its how hard you make them work for their buckets that matters most and when it comes to that..on this team Kobe is unmatched.

Wade has been great though.. He's so dam quick. Hopefully the rest of the world HAS THE POOR Scouting/Coaching that the exhibition teams have shown and continue to play up on Wade instead of letting him shoot in the half court.

I've watched every single game and the most consistent two players are Kobe and Wade.

Kobe brings the defense each and every game and contributes to the offense regularly as well.

Wade has been the best offensive player so far, but he tends to be the recipient of a lot of fast break points and dimes. Also, Wade has played great help defense and picked off a lot of steals.

It was a hard decision, and in my eyes, they have both been equally good. I voted for Kobe however, as I'm a Lakers fan. That was my tie-breaker.

damn kobe fans :pity: still thinking he has been the best player which clearly wade has played his *** off and gave us the scoring we need coming of the bench, but i admit kobe's defense has been good but today it wasnt all that good that guy mills blew by him

Why are we h3ll bent on asking who is the leader or the best player on Team USA??!?! I think were more focused on our individual players dominating in the Olympics rather than the US Team itself winning the GOLD.

Very very bad....

Every player in Team USA can be considered as "Best." No player can individually possess what Coach K needs. Neither Kobe, Lebron nor Wade or Melo can possess the best skills of a PG, SG, SF, PF or C.

Gotta go with Wade. When the game gets tight and he comes in, we go on a tear!! He's splitting defenses, making very creative and difficult assists, shooting at a ridiculous % from the field and beyond the arc, and has a huge helping of steals and nice hustle rebounds.

Not to knock Kobe/LBJ/Melo or anything.

You even mentioning Chris Paul tells me all I need to know. Chris Paul hasn't even been a top 5 player so far. Melo hasn't done a better job than Deron Williams, so I didn't include him in the poll. Melo has been decent but one of his main priorities is to hit the jump shot at a high level and he hasn't done that. Kobe has played his role well (defense), LeBron has played his role well (all around play), Wade has played his role well (energy off the bench), D Will has played his role well (playmaking). These four guys have been the best at what they do. Any of them are legit candidates to win this poll. Carmelo isn't. He's been the best international player over the past 4 years, but this year is different. He's not the most talented player on Team USA and he no longer plays the Fiba game better than individuals who are more talented than him. He still plays at a high level but Kobe, LeBron and Wade are better talents who are playing the Fiba game better than him in '08.

kobe is shooting a much lower % than the other starters....
and against very weak opposition.
