View Full Version : Iguodala Wants $75-million Deal?

Finally, Lou Williams can get back at it.

It, of course, being the full-out workouts - pickup games included - from which Williams removed himself while playing it safe during his contract negotiation.

Yesterday, the Sixers officially announced the signing of Williams, their 6-foot-2, 21-year-old backup guard who's blossomed into an integral piece of the franchise.

Per team policy, the 76ers wouldn't disclose details, but a source said the contract is for five years and believed to be worth about $25 million.

Securing Williams appears to be the penultimate move of a busy summer for 76ers general manager Ed Stefanski, who alluded to "one more piece" the franchise needs to secure before embarking on what many believe will be a successful 2008-09 season.

That last piece is restricted free agent Andre Iguodala, last season's leading scorer. Stefanski has repeatedly said the two parties are in negotiations. Yesterday, he reiterated that stance.

"It takes time - things don't happen overnight, as I've mentioned over and over," Stefanski said. "Our intention is to sign Andre Iguodala back."

Last year, Iguodala rejected the Sixers' five-year, $57 million extension offer in favor of testing this summer's market. It has been reported that Iguodala is seeking a six-year, $75 million deal.

Iguodala also could play this season for the Sixers' qualifying offer of $3.8 million and roll the dice again next summer as an unrestricted free agent.

In the four weeks of free agency, the 76ers have signed power forward Elton Brand and guards Royal Ivey and Kareem Rush.

^^^ But Deng and Okafor got 70, and Iggy is better than them. Thats why he's asking for 75

He is thier best player and the player of thier future they better find away to get close to that number or he will be gone next summer, maybe even this summer. Maybe he'll be the new discussion for sign and trade ideas that won't happen.

What would you give up off of your team if a sign and trade was to take place?

My Team is Detroit Pistons, I would offer Tay and Amir for Igoudala all day. Thay would be about 12.5M in salaries to Philli for Igoudala's 75M over 6 average of 12.5M. They money works but would Philli do it? Probably not.

So what would you give up off of your team if a sign and trade was to take place?

There is no way that you can compare Iggy to Okafor. They are different types of players. Okafor is like 6-11, and blocks tons of shots, and hauls in tons of rebounds. He is a very athletic Center which is rare. If Iguodala is smart, he comes here for whatever they offer him, and try to win a Championship, with Elton Brand. 5 yr-57 million, at the rate the NBA salaries are jumping He may sign a 75 million 3 yr contract in five years.

Just like the housing prices got way out of hand, these sports players are gonna have to come down to reality at some point. At the rate we are headed noone will be able to afford the price of tickets in ten years.

Iggy is definitally better then Deng, no doubt. Okafor and him is a toss-up, but argueing over 5m for a player we need to contend for the next 5 years we just have to do.

Either way next year we will probably only have the MLE to offer players, unless Andre Miller wants to walk, so we should pay the guy what he wants.

Just give him 75, you can't risk losing a rising star like him.

What if another team offered him more. Are there other teams that have cap room left. This would ruin Sixers chances. I personally don't mind. Go Wizards!!

I think the Grizz is the only ones left with enough dough to give Iggy his dues.
But the Grizz are in their own world at this moment playing with themselves, not doing anything to help their team. They should make some trades, pick up Iggy and find some bigs who can provide them with some D.

All he has to do is threaten to leave for Europe. At that point David Stern will force Philly to re-sign him.

If he doesn't get that, then the Sixers screwed up big time. The thing is no other team except the Grizzlies can give him that much money, if he is interested in only money(maybe Europe). I think he will take less money and stay. Damn!

On top of what ee said, if they're going to pay Brand and Williams out the wazoo, then you pay Iguodala what he wants.

yeah 75 mill these days is not thaat much for a rising star sg, hate to say it, but its true.

here are his numbers for the past two seasons, he's 24 years old and wont turn 25 till next year.

2006-2007: 18.2 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 5.7 apg, 2.0 spg, 0.4 bpg
2007-2008: 20.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 4.8 apg, 2.1 spg, 0.6 bpg

the kid is a rising star and is a key part to the sixers lineup.

He may not be a number 1 option, but he's a hell of a #2 to go with Elton Brand.

the sixers need him.

He probably would've gotten those type of dollars, but he choked in the playoffs. I understand that he's a rising star, but teams should go back paying guys base on what they're doing now instead on potential. No one cares what he can do 5 yrs. down the road, he won't get payed that way. He's not worth 14-15 mill right now.

They should give it to him, but he hasn't earned it. He will earn it down the road, but he isn't worth that kind of money yet. Yet, its mandatory that they give it to him.

first of all iggy is not that much better then deng to me. i also would take okafur
before iggy. one other thing memphis does not need iggy. they have their own iggy (rudy gay) who i think is just as good, and as athletic, and he might be younger then iggy.

i guess when no other team is going to make a play at your RFA, you sit there and wait (knowing Europe's purse can't lure him away) and you try to work out a deal based on the market.

i'm hoping/expecting to see something similar to deng's deal, and the hold up is just them working out the incentives/bonuses to make the contract beneficial if iggy blows up, but not weigh it in too much in case the playoffs were a sign of things to come.
