Game 1

Monday, August 4 - 8:10 ET

http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_453329.jpg-------http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_219194.jpg

BOS: RHP Clay Buchholz (2-6, 5.94) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/b/buchhcl01.shtml) vs KC: RHP Gil Meche (9-9, 4.22) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/mechegi01.shtml)

Red Sox: Talk about a trip down memory lane that's a bit more bitter this time around. Buchholz watched John Lackey come within two outs of a no-hitter at Fenway Park on Tuesday, less than one year after Buchholz completed a no-no in his second career start. Buchholz showed innings where he looked strong, but fell victim to back-to-back two-run frames in the third and fourth in a 6-2 loss to the Angels. He'll look to earn his first win since May 2 against the Royals on the road. Buchholz is 0-4 in his last four decisions, including three losses in four starts since returning to the rotation in mid-July.

http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/players/action/ph_453329.jpg

Royals: Meche picked up his third straight victory, all since the All-Star break, on Tuesday night at Oakland. He used an aggressive attack, working inside with his fastball and cutter, thus discouraging batters to sit on his effective breaking ball. He's gone seven innings in each of his last two wins with good economy, throwing 100 and 101 pitches with a total of just three walks. At Boston on May 20, Meche pitched well and held the Red Sox to two runs in seven innings, but he lost, 2-1. He's 4-2 against the Sox in his career.

Game 2

Tuesday, August 5 - 8:10 ET

http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_277417.jpg-------http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_446454.jpg

BOS: RHP Josh Beckett (9-8, 4.15) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/b/beckejo02.shtml) vs KC: RHP Brian Bannister (7-9, 5.33) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/b/bannibr01.shtml)

Red Sox: Beckett wasn't his sharpest in his last outing against the Angels at Fenway Park, but he certainly fell victim to a flat performance from his team. The Sox dropped a 9-2 decision and suffered yet another sweep to the Halos as Beckett allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits in just 5 1/3 innings. He'll look to bounce back against the Royals, a team he's yet to face this season but is 2-0 with a 2.33 ERA against lifetime.

http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/players/action/ph_277417.jpg

Royals: Bannister rang up a lot of pitches, 111, in just five innings last Wednesday at Oakland. He allowed eight hits, walked four and struck out seven, matching his career high in Ks. Despite all that, the A's got just two runs and Bannister emerged with no decision. He's in a prolonged drought, not having a victory since June 23 -- six starts ago. Bannister faced Boston on May 22 at Fenway Park and was banged for seven runs on 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings.

http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/players/action/ph_446454.jpg

Game 3

Wednesday, August 6 - 8:10 ET

http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_123801.jpg-------http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_460024.jpg

BOS: RHP Tim Wakefield (6-8, 3.77) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/w/wakefti01.shtml) vs RHP Luke Hochevar (6-9, 5.42) (http://www.baseball-reference.com/h/hochelu01.shtml)

Red Sox: The veteran knuckleballer continues to be the most snakebitten pitcher on the staff. Wakefield has left six starts with a lead and wound up with either a loss or a no-decision. The latter was true in his last outing, when Wakefield fired 6 1/3 innings and departed with a 1-0 lead. The Red Sox wound up winning that game in 12 innings. Lifetime in his career at Kauffman Stadium, Wakefield is 6-4 with a 3.45 ERA.

http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/players/action/ph_123801.jpg

Royals: Hochevar gave up four runs on 10 hits to the White Sox in six innings Friday night but he wasn't hit that hard. Each hit was a single and a couple of them might have been outs but were not. He did have three wild pitches, equaling a club record, but he issued no walks. In his last nine starts, he's averaged only 1.5 walks per nine innings. Two-out runs continued to plague him, though; all four Sox runs came with two down. Hochevar pitched at Boston on May 19 and gave up seven runs (four earned) in a 7-0 loss.

if we could get another sweep here, then split the white sox series, witn 2 of three with tex, and 2 of 3 with the orioles, than we will be in 1st place by august 16th

Looking for the sweep. Buchholz needs to start this series off with a quality start.

We need to keep the ball rolling, should be a cake walk series if we stay focused. Get it done Sox!

Ortiz
Youkilis
Bay

JimmyMal450
08-04-2008, 07:47 PM
I really like seeing Youk bat 4th. As for Casey at six, I'm not sure I trust him with protecting Bay.

JimmyMal450
08-04-2008, 08:19 PM
Good start so far by the Sox.

Is Clay ever going to pitch well again?

This is pathetic.

clay doin terrible again

bosox1899
08-04-2008, 09:17 PM
maybe buchh needs to go back to AAA hes certainly not getting better with each start, im starting to get tired of watching him walk batters and make stupid mistakes

bosox1899
08-04-2008, 09:22 PM
haha how easy it is to strike out crisp, all the pitcher needs to do is throw it outside the strike zone and crisp always swings, he must be one of the most impatient batters ive seen or he has the worse eye

JimmyMal450
08-04-2008, 09:26 PM
I'm really dissapointed in Clay, I think its time to send him back down. All that was needed tonight was a quality start for him against the ROYALS, and he couldn't do that.

wow bay helps if u swing he has seen 6 pitches 6 strikes he has 2 Ks and has swung at 2 pitches thats terrible

Let's not hate on Bay now, Buchholz had the lead and gave it right up, the Red Sox hitters are not to blame.

TDbank24
08-04-2008, 09:27 PM
Clay just doesn't have his stuff anymore. He needs to go develop some more in the minors for awhile. On a side note, damn the Royals they always do this to us in important games

JimmyMal450
08-04-2008, 09:38 PM
Haha what a great hit by Pedroia...that's how Jacoby should start trying to hit, he could easyly get on base by doing that.

papipapsmanny
08-04-2008, 09:38 PM
we got to stick with clay he will come around, although when masterson was doing well, it was kind of sumb to stop that success

08-04-2008, 09:39 PM
it's not really clays's fault there were 2 infield hits

JimmyMal450
08-04-2008, 09:42 PM
it's not really clays's fault there were 2 infield hits

Yeah but his command is way off, not to mention 2 BB, 1 HBP, and a wild pitch isn't good when you have guys on base.

KmB728
08-04-2008, 09:46 PM
j bay we really needed a hit there!

bosox1899
08-04-2008, 09:48 PM
well heres our inconsistent offense again, so many runners they left on base tonight...meche already has 7 Ks in only 5 innings

08-04-2008, 09:50 PM
great job BAY those that were happy to get him well there u go... Bay cant old mannys jockstrap..

bosox1899
08-04-2008, 09:50 PM
ok bay just pulled a manny there haha, he just lobs the ball in ASSUMING that was an automatic double when he could have had a play at 2nd base :pity:

papipapsmanny
08-04-2008, 10:02 PM
this lineup is terrible why is youk 4th and why is bay unprotected??

its comman sense to do these things yet francona doesnt do them

same with ellsbury over crisp, ellsbury has been god awful and he still has better numbers than crisp, yet crisp always eats aways ellsbury's at bats just to k all of the time

KmB728
08-04-2008, 10:05 PM
come on guys lets get some hits already!

bosox1899
08-04-2008, 10:05 PM

who did we give up to get crisp from Cleveland? does anyone remember? anyways he sucks i wish we could go back in time and not do that trade, crisp is pathetic at the plate

papipapsmanny
08-04-2008, 10:11 PM
oh and joba got hurt, i knew he would get an injury at some point you cant just go from the pen to starting trying to throw 97 and 98 the whole time without getting injured

especially without any minor league starts to build up arm strength

JimmyMal450
08-04-2008, 10:11 PM
who did we give up to get crisp from Cleveland? does anyone remember? anyways he sucks i wish we could go back in time and not do that trade, crisp is pathetic at the plate

We gave up Kelly Shoppach, Andy Marte, and another player(can't remember). Marte was the guy we got in the Renteria trade and was supposed to be a highly ranked prospect.

Edit: The other player was Guillermo Mota. The Sox also gave up Player to be Named Later Randy Newsom and Cash Considerations. Pretty Good trade huh??

kazzy4080

Kelly Shoppach (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7493)- Pretty Solid stats

Andy Marte (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7291)-Hasn't really found it in the MLB.

Guillermo Mota (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6214)- Not very good

you know whats sad about this game, we are getting shut down by ****ing Kansas City Royal's pitching...Ortiz isnt doing squat now that Manny is gone, Drew is back in his usual slump, Mike Lowell is hurt and our bottom of the order is basically automatic outs

KmB728
08-04-2008, 10:27 PM
we have 2 innings to get atleast 2 runs lets step it up guys

Youk Bay and Casey in the 8th ...

kazzy4080
08-04-2008, 10:27 PM
francona needs to do something, he need to get thrown out of a game or something pump up the team

papipapsmanny
08-04-2008, 10:29 PM
no francona needs to make a lineup that any intelligent person would do automatically bay should be protecting ortiz and some one should be protecting bay

it shouls have been
pedrioa
youk
ortiz
bay
drew
lowrie
casey
tek
ellsbury

why did he change something that was working regardless of lowell being out

TDbank24
08-04-2008, 10:45 PM
Tek at the plate and Crisp on deck. Why do i have a feeling this 8th inning won't end well?

Edit: Shocker, Tek struck out

we had so many chances to at least tie that game and many of them came on 3-2 counts (varitek and Drew) but as usual they struck out so o well we better not get swept by the royals, if that happens we don't deserve to even go to the postseason

this team is so frustrating to watch, they havent had a stretch of good games the whole season, offense hasnt really gelled, bullpen is wicked shaky, only thing thats competing us up is our good rotation and a few guys on offense (pedoria/youk/ and drew in that stretch).

Buchholz and Ellsbury in a sophomore slump!! no confidence at all!
Hard for Buchholz to be in a sophmore slump when he never had rookie success.

He's a rookie this year. He only made a couple of starts last year. This is his first bit of taste, and he's failing.

I'm wondering when Mike Lowell retires if they move Lowrie to 3rd base or move Youk back to 3rd and put Lowrie at 1st because I don't think he's a great defensive SS but, we gotta keep that bat in the lineup for sure.
