View Full Version : Kobe Would Play In Russia For Right Price

Kobe Bryant admitted over the weekend that he would consider leaving the NBA for Russia if a sizable contract could be arranged, according to The Sport Express Daily.

"Of course," Bryant said when asked if he'd consider playing overseas. "By the way, are you the owner of a Russian team? It can be arranged for $40 million per year."

A number of NBA players have left the NBA for Europe this offseason, in a somewhat surprising turn of events. It's highly doubtful that Bryant would ever actually sign with a Russian team, but anything could become possible for the right price.

It seems as though everyone wants a piece of Kobe though.

"I would love Kobe to come to Duke University to play for me," added Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski. "I can't offer him that kind of salary, but he would receive a university diploma instead."

I agree....Kobe wants to be the greatest player in NBA history....why would he go to Russia??

Why wouldn't he. Think about it, Europe's currency is starting to become better than America's. In Europe you don't have to pay taxes.
He can make a total of $40million dollars a year, in prolly better places than to live in America.

Kobe loves Europe, Italy for obvious reasons. I could see him playing over there after he retires from the nba until he's about 40.

and what exactly is wrong with Russia?
They are slowly becoming wealthier by the minute. All that oil and natural gas is flowing in and creating boatloads of billionaires in Russia. Obviously the government needs to spread all that money out to the entire country, but it is still a beautiful country.

Also, if any professional athlete plays in Russia, its mostly in St. Petersburg or Moscow, which are basically cities for the wealthy.

you DO hoave to pay taxes in europe, the tirk is teams offer you the salary with the Taxes already paid, for example the CHildress deal is 30 Tax-free millions for him but olympiakos is in reality paying 45 millions.

Yea, KB isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Although I wouldn't mind seeing him average 50ppg/10rpg/12apg for a season or so...

Jordan would probably still dominate over seas even in his currently aged state.

He won't go over there. He wouldn't leave his daughters....and I'm sure their mom would love the cold weather of Russia compared to SoCal where she's lived most of her life.

Kobe wouldn't say no of course, because it would be a disgrace to Russia. But we all know he won't play in Europe until probably his late 30s if he can still play bball.

Um...Russia isn't Europe, guys...they don't even use the Euro, they use the Rouble...which is still like 20:1 US Dollar, don't know the equivalency but, yeah, Europe is one thing...Russia is different, I didn't even know the Russians were in to Basketball!

He isn't going to Russia. If he wants to be remembered as one of the greatest of all-time, he will stay in the NBA. Just doesn't make sense for him to leave, even for $40 million dollars.

Ok , here is one question, Kobe has already 3 rings and an Mvp, probably in 2011 when his contract expires he will have 4 or 5 rings , so if he is offered a LOT of money, why wouldnt he take it, he ALREADY is a Lock for the Hall of Fame, so why not ensure being a lock for FIBA Hall of fame too.

I don't even like the Lakers but I would be mad if Kobe really left the NBA.
