Despite the Brett Favre uncertainty, the Packers stabilized their running offense by reaching a four-year deal with running back Ryan Grant worth up to $30 million, his agent told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Saturday.

Grant, 25, was an unsigned exclusive rights free agent scheduled to make $370,000. The agreement ended a seven-day holdout.

"He's very happy," his agent, Alan Herman, told the newspaper. "It's been a dream year for him." According to the report, Herman negotiated a contract in which Grant will earn a $3 million roster bonus when he signs the deal and $1.25 million more this season through $750,000 in base salary and an additional roster bonus worth $500,000.

If Grant rushes for 1,500 yards this season, he will make $4 million more, Herman told the Journal Sentinel. If he rushes for 1,000 yards he would earn a $1 million bonus. Herman said the will allow Grant to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2011 season.

The key to the deal was the first-year payout of $4.25 million, according to a source who spoke to ESPN's John Clayton on condition of anonymity.

A week ago, the Packers were offering only $2 million in the first year of a six-year offer.

"A little bit of progress was made on Thursday," his agent said Friday night, according to the paper. "For a team with $30 million worth of cap room, and Ryan's ability, I thought we would be much further along."

After taking the starting job in midseason last year, Grant, acquired in a trade with the New York Giants before the start of the season, rushed for 956 yards and eight touchdowns, adding 201 rushing yards and three touchdowns in the Packers' divisional playoff victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

i will actually appluad (sp?) tt and staff for this one. they did not break the bank but gave him a fair pay based on him playing hard. every nfl team should do something similar to unproven players, little gaurentee money alot of performance based pay.

Yeah this is the only good news i have heard from this organization in what seems like forever. If Ryan Grant plays well the next 4 years the he is going to be a very rich man. He should be a huge part of our team next year and i can't wait to see him in camp on Monday

u have no idea how excited i am right now. this is amazing news. i cant wait too see how he does in camp.

btw i think performance based contracts are the best thing in the world..every contract should be like that. you will see players trying alot harder. So hopefully ryan has a big year this year.

Great news for you guys. You got your RB and the contract wasnt THAT expensive. A very nice contract for him, he deserved a little money after his great year, but it didnt break your bank.

This isn't anything unexpected. All these kind of negociations look awful and eventually get worked out. No big deal.

I am very happy this happened. I was actually in a debate with another packer fan about Farve and I saw this pop up on the screen and our debate stopped and we agreed on something.
