View Full Version : Update: No Maddux deal with L.A.

The Dodgers are talking to the Padres about a deal for Greg Maddux, ESPN's Buster Olney reports. With Maddux refusing to leave the West Coast, the Dodgers are the only team that makes sense for him. However, previous reports indicated that they weren't interested, perhaps due to a lack of cash. Maybe they've scraped up the money now. The Padres probably won't require much in return.

That seems to be the only place Greg Maddux wants to play in.

Makes sense for the Dodgers, they could use a veteran pitcher at the end of the rotation. Plus, he won't cost much.

Hey, why not.

Helps the Dodgers in the short term. No reason not to.

Agree. Kuroda has been crap lately. Im thinking something is wrong with his arm. Penny has been hurt the whole season. They might trade Lowe soon. We need more pitching.

something big might be going down for the Dodgers involving Lowe if they pull the trigger on this deal.

could we get chin lung hu for him??

07-30-2008, 06:48 PM
^no, you'll get one of our lower tier prospects most likely

07-30-2008, 06:49 PM
what if we gave you khalil also or something like that?

07-30-2008, 06:55 PM
I personally want have nothing to do with khalil, he's awful and Hu has been groomed to be our ss successor. So if Maddux is traded I wouldn't expect too many people or big names involved.

07-30-2008, 06:57 PM
ya me either i was just curious. i dont blame you for wanting nothing to do with khalil. do you have any other SS?

please take Khalil off our hands. D:

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal says the Dodgers have put the Greg Maddux talks on hold while they work on other deals. Either they simply know Maddux will be there for them at the deadline if nothing else works out or they don't have the money to take on the more than $3 million that Maddux is still owed. The Padres probably won't be willing to pick that up unless it lands them a top prospect. They're primarily interested in shedding the salary.

The Dodgers don't really need pitching, their biggest concern should be acquiring a power bat, that they need desperately.

Maybe Greg Maddux isn't going to wind up back with the Dodgers after all. The Dodgers and Padres have always been uncomfortable making deals with each other. And with 90 minutes left until the deadline, they've been unable to reach agreement on a trade that would send Maddux back to L.A., the only team he has told the Padres to which he would approve a deal.

One source familiar with the two clubs' discussions say the $3.3 million remaining on Maddux's salary this year is not a major issue. But the Dodgers have been unwilling to make anything beyond a modest offer, obviously because they're clearly aware they're the only taker.

Padres are being stupid.

What reason do they have to keep him?

nothing but they arent getting what they want back i guess. i think that right before the deadline they will give in and just do it for whatever
