View Full Version : What should the starting 5 look like?

Now that we have Artest, I think there are actually a few options for how the starting 5 of this team could look and I think that given different situations, any of these could be the starting 5 on any given night. Which do you prefer and why?

It depends on who u really face, and also if the rockets trade shane for a PG (i.e. Raymond Felton, Kirk Hinrich)

I think they should keep the starting 5 the way it is and bring Artest in as the all around 6th man. He can play the 2, 3, & 4. This would cause major mis-matches and can alleviate some of the burden of playing 35+ min a night for McGrady Ming and Battier.

I would not be surprised if another trade is in the making. We definately need help at the back-up point spot. This trade is another move that seems to point to Landry not resigning but we will see.

The first one is clearly the best although at times we could see the other ones as well.

Battier goes to the bench and Artest starts. It really doesn't matter who starts, but who finishes. I see Barry, Tmac, Artest, Yao and Scola finishing some games.

Im pretty sure we'll do this Celtics style and go with the traditional lineup first.

i'd love to see mcgrady at the point, but it'll never happen.

imagine him at the 1, artest at the 2 and shane at the 3. We'd have one of the ultimate shot blocking teams in the league.

as crazy as it sounds I stuck with the old starting line up of rafer, tmac, battier, scola and yao because its what works. I think having artest come off the bench will be beneficial in the same way that manu ginobli does for san antonio because

1. He'll give Battier and anyone else a defensive presence as Battier rests
2. He'll give Tmac and a Yao a scoring option if either one or both are on the bench
3. He's that 3rd guy if Yao or Tmac get hurt that can fill the gap
4. As good as Battier and Rafer are I think they'll struggle coming off the bench in producing the points that they produce in complimenting Yao and Tmac

I mean it does make a lot of sense having him as a starter, but we might actually have too many scoring options on the floor at the same time and not enough coming off the bench and maybe too many defensive options (which is a good thing).

Our everyday lineup should be with Artest and Battier as the 6th man. Battier would bring a spark with his hustle and defense, like what Landry did last year.

I would do this...

Alston
McGrady
Artest
Dorsey
Yao

Bench
Battier
Scola
Head

You forgot Carl Landry and Brent Barry for the bench. Also, how could we start a 6'7 Rookie at PF over a proven Louis Scola who stands at 6'10?

alston

id like too see tmac play point some games, maybe if we up by 15 or so we could try new things, Landry and his 3 point and tmac and his pg skills :D

tmac
yao
battier
artest
alston

should b the starting 5.....we donnt bench battier n bring him off the bench...we bring offense off the bench not defense........with scola in the starting lineup we wont have enough shots for him.....i rather have artests or battiers defense n lose a lil height at the 4....that way scola can come off the bench n score n b the backup for yao......thus reducing yaos mins......mutombo cant really score so we need scola to back up yao

scola/mutumbo
barry
francis/brooks
dorsey/hayes
head

thats a good bench, a bench that can score....we dont even need landry
now if u take scola out n put in battier......the bench will have trouble scoring

artest off the bench. same starting lineup as last year use artest similar to the way sa uses manu off the bench for energy. he will still get the same number of shots and 30+ minutes just like manu does.
