Memphis rookie O.J. Mayo got a glowing endorsement from the league MVP Kobe Bryant, who dominated the rookie early in the U.S. National team scrimmages, but to his credit Mayo got better the more they played, the L.A. Times are reporting.

"Kobe completely shut him down in the beginning," said U.S. managing director Jerry Colangelo. "But the longer they went, the better Mayo got."

"I think the world of him," Bryant said. "I think he's extremely talented. I think he has a great overall game that a lot of young players don't have in terms of skills. He can handle, he can shoot, he can pass, he's fast, he's quick, so that's the whole package."

This might boost his popularity throughout the Olympic games maybe he'll get a spot in 2010 for the tryouts.

I would be feeling pretty good if I was Mayo but at the same time more nervous to play and live up to the praises from Kobe.

wow, kobe is trying to be a nice guy while we all know he is thinking in his head ... i could eat OJ one on one im the best, what a **** ... he should jsut play and keep his mouth shut. He never says anything good about other players kobe is a self centerd ****** .. but kobe is amazing, but he is still a **** and i think he said that just for the sake of saying something

This could be an honorable mention for most ridiculous post...Theres very few players in the NBA Kobe wouldnt "eat" one on on, and given his MVP he is considered the best...He never says anything good about other players? Have you not read things he's said lately about other players...He constantly talks about Vujacic, Bynum, and Pau...and now hes talks about LBJ, Jason Kidd, and how great everyone else is on Team USA...Why would he say something just to say it? He thinks Mayo is a good player, its not like he held a press conference to let everyone know about it..he just thinks hes going to be good..Just cause youre better than somebody doesnt mean you cant complement them...

Mayo must be very happy with that from the league MVP. He's my favourite rookie this year too.

He said the same about Gerald Green.
