Did not expect him to get THAT much. So is he signed and then traded?

A little too much. He has too many injuries in his career. He is receiving more money than Monta Ellis

Well, big men generally get paid more than combo guards like Ellis. Ellis can do one thing, and that's score. Okafor has averaged a double double in each of his 4 seasons. He is a great rebounder, can play defense, and still give 15 ppg. His contract compares to what Bogut got.

Nope, I'm thinking he's here to stay. You would've heard about solid sign and trade options before he signed.

good signing, he is the centerpiece of the franchise.

I'm both happy and dissapointed with the signing. Happy it's done and we don't have to worry about it anymore, but dissapointed it's for so much. I know it's comparable to what Bogut and Biedrins got, but I have to think they are overpaid as well. I guess this goes to speak for the dearth of quality big men in the league. We know he's going to give you 13/10/1.5 a night but his free throw shooting is horrid and he has nothing outside of 5 feet from the basket. But with that said, in the current market we probably should have expected this deal and I can live with it. I like Okafor as a person, he's a good citizen. Does a lot of work in the community and seems like an all around good guy, so we don't have to worry about him getting into trouble off the court, which sometimes is worth a few extra dollars in a contract...

I think he is going to stay with Bobcats as well, I definitely think we would've of heard something more if he wasn't.

Everyone seems to think Okafor is so much better than Biedrins so that justifies the extra money they gave Okafor as opposed to Biedrins....lets take a look at the numbers...

Emeka Okafor 6 yrs 72 mil
33.2 mpg, 13.8 ppg, .535 field goal% (12th in the league pretty good huh?) .570 Free Throw %, 10.7 rpg, .76 stl, 1.68 bpg

Andris Biedrins 6 yrs 62 mil
27.4 mpg, 10.5 ppg, .626 field goal% (Led the league hmm..), .620 Free Throw%, 9.8 RPG, .74 stl, 1.24 bpg...

If Biedrins would have played the 33.2 mpg that Okafor had his stat line would be something like:
12.7 ppg, 11.9 rpg, 0.89 spg, 1.50 bpg

Having said all that, I think that Okafor deserved closer to the 10 mil Biedrins got as opposed to the 12 mil he actually got...

^^ Andris plays in an up tempo system where guys take many shots so his rebounding is a bit inflated but I agree about the worth of both players

Big's get overpaid, especially when they at least are consistent and give yu 10-15 10 2 etc

I'm lad we kept Emeka but I don't know ho much Charlotte will pay for Felton now, he might be trade bait this upcoming season :(

Al Jefferson 5 years, 60 million
35.6 mpg, 21.0 ppg, 11.1 rpg, .500 FG%, 1.45 bpg, turns 24 halfway into next season. One of the best deals in the NBA for a young big man

The Bobcats officially signed Emeka Okafor to a six-year, $72 million contract on Thursday.

Okafor will be an excellent source of rebounds and blocks again this season, as long as he can stay healthy.

I completely agree...I was in a debate in another thread about a guy thinking Okafor deserved huge money...

Carlos Boozer 6 yrs 68 mil, Al Jefferson 5 yrs 65 mil, David West 5 yrs 45 mil....Amare 5 yrs 73 mil...hmm..It easily debated all these guys are superior to Okafor.
