View Full Version : Bobcats resign Emeka Okafor

07-29-2008, 09:20 AM
The Charlotte Bobcats have agreed to terms on a six-year $72 million deal with Emeka Okafor that will get him an average of $12 million per season. The leverage in the deal was the monster number Milwaukee gave to Andrew Bogut (five years $60 million with incentives that could push it to $70 million). League sources said last night that Emeka's deal will also have some incentives included, but that the bulk of the deal is straight money and that Charlotte could announce the signing today or tomorrow. $72 million is awfully high for a guy that averaged 13 points and 10 rebounds and whose numbers were down last year, add the fact there was no real competition for his services. The Bobcats position has been they were retaining Emeka, and at these dollars they proved their commitment.

Wow another good find by you. Nice job.. He could of had this deal or better last season, I dont know what he was thinking when he turned it down the first time... Pressure off the bobcats now for sure.

He turned down 65M for 5 years last year to settle for less this year... At least the Bobcats locked him up though.

He is slightly overpaid but I don't think the Bobcats had any option here. Losing Okafor would've taken them a lot back in their evolution as a franchise.

Larry Brown has his squad now.
That's the guy he really wanted them to keep. Should be a fun and hopefully productive season for them now.
