Kwame Brown is headed back to the Eastern Conference.

Brown's agent, Mark Bartlestein, told ESPN.com on Monday night that the former No. 1 pick in the 2001 draft has reached a verbal agreement on a new contract with the Detroit Pistons.

The contract is believed to be a two-year deal worth $8 million, with Brown -- who spent his first four seasons as a pro in Washington after being drafted by then-Wizards president Michael Jordan -- holding a player option to return to free agency after this season.

Brown earned nearly $9.1 million last season in the final year of his previous three-year deal, which the 26-year-old received in the summer of 2005 in a sign-and-trade from Washington to the Los Angeles Lakers. Brown's expiring salary was the chief chip that the Lakers used to convince the Memphis Grizzlies to send Pau Gasol to L.A. on Feb. 1 in a trade that earned the Grizzlies widespread criticism.

Brown played in only 15 games with the Grizzlies after the trade, averaging just 3.5 points and 3.8 rebounds in under 14 minutes per game.

 4 mil a season for a player who cant even catch a ball

wow! 4 million? Damm I was hoping the Lakers could resign Kwame for like 2 per..but Mitch pretty much shot down those hopes...on the radio today..

Still Kwame is a good defender and he'll fit right into the DET Mindset..

But yea like you said just don't expect him to catch the rock and finish

I hope you are kidding. He is the modern day Olowokandi. Total bust. But he is huge, 25, so someone was bound to give him a chance. But if Detroit paid him 4 million a year, someone has something on Joe Dumars.

Joke all you want guys, but he's a decent defender and a pretty good rebounder, for a team that's over the cap for the foreseeable future and needed a good defensive big man it's a great pick up.

I think they have noticed he has been traded for all stars in Caron Butler and Pau Gasol. They are probably thinking they can get D Wade for him next year.

Like I said, fine, for 1.4 a year. But if they paid 4 million a year for him, that is ridiculous. He is a 5-5 player, who averages 4 fouls for every block he makes.

MANnNNNNN...I really wanted him to resign with the Lakers...but I guess 4 mil is a lot.. still though. He could really help us on the defensive end giving a rest to gasol and bynum. Before people start bashing me for wanting kwame, i dont want him for his excellent ball handling skills..lol. Hes a good defensive presence.

good pick up for Detroit.

Id laugh so hard if he just exploded this year into the all-star caliber player he was projected to be.

If they don't need the money, why exactly does it matter how much they pay him? It's not like they're one of those teams that tries to save every last dollar and stay under the luxury tax at all costs every year.

Detroit got it nice. 4MPY for such a great low post defender is a great deal. He sucks bad on offense, but he can body up anyone in this league and that's something Detroit lacked last season.

I like this move by Detroit, if theres a team in wich he could flourish, this is it.

They dont require him to score, just to get rebounds and Blocks.

I can see him finally becoming an Starter in this league and making like 8points 10 rebounds 3 blocks.

Ehh :/ If Kwame really works hard and stuff, it could be a good pick-up. Otherwise, bad move.

he's a bum!

It's pretty bad when Knicks fans even realize that a player like Kwame wouldn't even be accepted to play there, after all what are they holding onto Z-Bo, Marbury, Lee, and Crawford? They would have a tough time defeating a good Jr. College team.

I would gladly welcome those numbers as you said no one here in Detroit is expecting him to put up 20 and 10 just grab the boards and makethe hustle plays being around the Vets the Pistons have hopefully will rub off on this kid finally.

I am a huge pistons fan. I think Kwame will fit in okay with the pistons. We need a big man, but ideally it would be someone with SOME scoring ability. But we'll take his defense. And if we can make him rebound it will be great. But I have a really hard time with 4 million a year. I don't think he is worth that much. I would say 2 million a year, MAX!!! Hopefully he will surpass all of our expectations.
